VALETE

Jonathan Morley J onathan has served the College as the Chaplaincy Assistant since September 2017. Over the course of the year, he has been discerning a vocation to the ordained ministry of the Church. That calling seems self- evident; such has been his contribution to the Christian life and witness of the College. A real desire to get to know people, and a genuine interest in listening to what they have to say, has made Jonathan’s ministry a vital and engaging one, not just within the chaplaincy, but in many other aspects of the school’s life. In addition to offering his invaluable assistance to the Chaplain, he has overseen the Lower and Upper School Christian Unions – encouraging and challenging the boys’ faith in equal measure. He has been a real hit with the Junior School, speaking at their assemblies and Chapel services. His regular evenings in with the boarding community have fostered some significant pastoral connections. He has supervised and coached rugby and hockey, and accompanied boys on their Community Action visits to Streatham Wells Primary School. The boys with whom he has engaged pastorally value his wise and sensitive ear, and his welcome sense of fun. In short, he has been a good and faithful servant of the College, the chaplaincy, and the Christian Gospel. As to the outcome of his vocational discernment – these matters ultimately lie in the hands of the bishops’ advisory panel (with the assistance, we trust, of the Holy Spirit). At the time of writing, they have not yet made a judgement on Jonathan, and we continue to wait on tenterhooks. Whatever the outcome, he has real pastoral gifts, and will be a great servant of the Church. We wish him all the very best as he moves on to (we hope) further training for ministry, and prepares for his impending nuptials in the summer. Justin White

Anita Bott A nita Bott, who leaves at the end of the summer term to join her husband in Hong Kong, started at the College in February 2013 as Assistant to the COO, moving to the newly created role of Projects Coordination Manager in January 2016. This was a role requiring tact, good grasp of detail and great communication, for which she was perfectly suited. In her relatively short time at the College, Anita’s enthusiasm, passion, endless energy and total commitment to helping and engaging with people has left an extraordinary mark. Nothing is too much trouble; she loves to connect with people and is determined to make things happen. She has played a key role in facilitating the many projects that we have been engaged with over the past two years, always keen to keep people informed, to understand their needs and to ensure that they are taken into account and cared for. Recently, she supported the Common Room in the upgrade of its facilities. Always cheerful, with a sparkling sense of humour and a ‘can-do’ attitude, she engaged happily with the process of picking colours, fabrics and furniture. She is a brilliant networker, and her relentless energy and abiding wish to support people and deliver results will be greatly missed. In her time at the College she has rightly earned the respect and appreciation of those she has come into contact with, whether operational or teaching staff, and we expect to hear very soon that she is making waves in Hong Kong – do they know the whirlwind that is coming? We wish her all the very best; we will be the poorer for her departure. Simon Yiend
