swore, and hë got drunk and beat his wife and his children. Even the dogs were afraid of him. Npw he is ,the kindest man on our street.” “Yes,” smiled Miss Lucy. “Jesus is the Great Physician. He loves to make crooked hearts and lives straight. That is just what He did for the boy in another story. . “This other boy’s name was peorge Mullen The one great desire of ’ his heart was to travel in foreign coun tries and hâve all the m o n e y he. wanted, and to spend it just as he pleased. Although he was born more than a hundred, years ago, he went ‘Crooked’ in the same way that peo ple go wrong today, He chose evil: companions, he stole, he lied, and he got drunk. So; in God’s sight, his tongue, his hands, and his feet went’ in crooked ways. He allowed Satan to fill his mind with crooked thoughts and plans. “Of cpurse he got into trouble. His father often punished him severely. He was expelled from a number oí schools, and once, while t r y i n g to Cheat a hotel owner, he was caught by two policemen who. threw him into jail. .George then promised his father that if, he Would get him out of that dirty place, he would never; never go crooked again. _ But he did. “Re was sent to college to be pre pared for the ministry,* and there he studied for hours every day. He read pages and pages of printed prayers, but it never occcurred to him. that God heard them. “One Sunday a f t e r n o o n ^ when George had grown to be a young man, he went, with a schoolmate, Beta, to a religious meeting which was held in a private home. Arriving late, the two stood outside for a few minutes. Some onè on the inside was praying very earnestly, George asked to whom the man was speaking, and Beta an swered,''‘He is talking to God.’' ‘“ Talking to God!’ exclaimed the amazed George. T did not know a person could talk directly to God.' If. it is possible, I am going to talk to Him.’ ” “That afternoon George Muller be gan talking to God, and it was not long until Jésus, the Great Physician, had forgiven h is. sins and cleansed his dirty heart and straightened his cr.ooked life. <. “After he had been made straight, George,Muller opened g home for poor orphans in Bristol, England. He had no money of his own, and he asked no one but God for all that was need ed, and God put it into the minds of a great number of people to send it. Large and small amounts came from, near-by places, and some came long distances. Although -the work grew until there were hundreds of children to clothe, to feed, to house, arid to educate, yet never once did the heav-

His a c c o u n t books showed he' had been given several; millions, of/dollars for the prphanages. He had traveled in twenty countries, telling about, the God who hears and' answers the prayers of those, who ah lo>v. Jesus to forgive their sins and cleanse their thoughts arid actions.” When Miss Lucy ended'the story, all were' very quiet. Finally she said, “The Lord Jesus is right here now. He loves every one, and if any one comes to Him, Jesus will not cast him out, but Will accept him as His very own and will help him live straight. The -Lord Jesus Said, .‘Him that comefh to me I wiU. in no wise cast out.’ Will you receive Him?” Good News from Africa From the Belgian Congo in Africa comes a list of new K.Y.B.C. members that will be of special interest to American boys and girls. -Mrs. Péter J. Brashler (Edythe L. C. McKee- of the class of 193? at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles) is a member of the Africa Inland -Mission; serving •the Lord at Adi, Congo Beige, Africa. She sends a list of-seventy-eight who have read through the Gospel of John and are therèbÿ-entitled to K.Y.B.C, pins and membership in -the' club. Five of them are girls, and the rest are boys of the Mission schools. Would it not be a good plan- for the members ’ of Know Your Bible
