though not possessed of their physical bodies, and they still consciously wor shiped the living God. Hence the Sad ducees were greatly in error, neither understanding nor believing the Scrip tures they professed to hold. It was their unbelief that gave birth to their ignorance and error, and constituted their guilt. XL D ealing with S aints (1 Qor.- 15:50-58) This chapter deals with the resur rection of the body-; if-the body is to be raised from the grave, certainly the person to whom that body belongs will be alive. The bodies that have been buried and havé become corrupt will be raised incorruptible, and the mortal bodies of those who are alive when tha Lord comes will be changed to immortal bodies. Though flesh and blood cannot “ inherit the kingdom,” yet flesh and bones will go into that kingdom, even as they have already done in the body of Jesus Christ. How this shall be accomplished is a great mystery, a mystery never to be under stood apart from this word that the Holy Spirit has given concerning God’s purpose for the future. There will be, of necessity, one gen eration of believers that will not pass through death. All the bodies Of ail the saints will be changed, even though some òf them will not die. That change will take place in “ a moment, in the twinkling of an eyè,” not for some believers at one time and for some at another, depending upon the character of life lived. If they be long to Christ at all, they all will be changed at “ the last trump.” Thát trump is not the last trump* of judg ment but of jubilee, celebrating the final victory over the results of sin. “The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, . . . and with the trump of God: and the déad in Christ shall rise first” (1 Thess. 4:16). At the sounding of that trump, the bodies sown in corruption, dishonor and weakness will be raised in incor ruption, glory, and power (cf. vS. 42-44). Sown as natural bodies, they will be raised as spiritual bodies. With that event will transpire what is writ ten: death will be swallowed up in victory. All this will be brought about through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom all the glory belongs.

APRIL 5,1942 CHRIST AND LIFE AFTER DEATH (Easter Lesson) M ark 12:24-27; 1 C orinthians 15:50-58

While the Sadducees denied the fu ture life, they held that the Penta teuch was from God. Jesus therefore met them on their own ground by re ferring to the writings of Moses. In doing this, He revealed their igno rance and, because of that, their error and their guilt. They were in error be cause they did not know the meaning of that which they professed to believe, nor did they know the power of God in resurrection. They should have known this from the Scriptures they professed to honor. Taking up their question concerning the seveft brothers who had each in turn married the same woman, Jesus declared that the dead will rise and be as “the angels which are in heaven" (v. 25). He did not teach that they become angels, nor that they be come like angels in nature, but that they are “ as the angels" in condition as far as marrying is concerned, be cause the. angels neither marry nor are given in marriage. There will be no propagation in heaven. The host of the redeemed will be complete when the Lord comes; there never will be any more or any less than the com plete number. In answer to the' criticisms leveled against the truth—truth, that these Sadducees should have known—our Lord referred to the incident of God’s speaking to Moses from the burning bush (Ex. 3:6). There God revealed Himself as the living God and the God of living persons.: The bodies of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had long been dead when this incident took place. Nevertheless God was still their God. They had not passed from exist ence; they were1 still alive, even BLACKBOARD LESSON

Mark 12:24 And Jeans answering said onto them» Do ye not therefore err, be cause ye know not the Scriptures^ neither the power of God? 25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage i but are as the angels which are in heaven* 26 And as touching the dead, that they rlsei have ye not read in the book of Moses, how In the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of «Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the livings ye therefore do greatly err* 1 Corinthians 15*50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot in herit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption* ■ 61 Behold, I show you a mystery s W e shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumps for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on in- oorruptlon, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is writ ten, Death is swallowed up In victory* 5p O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The s t in g o f d ea th is sin; and the strength o f sin is th e la w . 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. - 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abound ing In the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. But, as usual, when the trap was sprung, they themselves were caught instead of the intended victim.
