then. Whoever despises the followers of Christ is despising Him; whoever despises Him is despising God. How careful we should be to listen to those who come to tell us the glad news about Jesus! When we are irreverent in church, we are despising Christ. When we listen and take His teaching into our hearts, we are not honoring the one who speaks—we are honoring Jesus who has sent that speaker. Do you suppose Jesus wants to send any one on a trip today? Would you like to take a trip for Him this week? Why don’t you go to some other child and ask him to come to Sunday-school with you to hear about our wonderful Lord? Object Lesson S ouls and S acks OBJECTS: A potato sack and about ten pounds of potatoes. (Put two of the potatoes in the sack, and pile the rest up on the table in full view of the class.) LESSON: On the table there is a large pile of potatoes. There are only two potatoes in this sack. What would you think of a farmer who, having a large potato crop, sacked only a small portion .of the potatoes, leaving the rest to rot in the field? “We would think that he was very foolish.” Yes, you are right. Often crops are not harvested because not enough laborers can be secured when needed. When crops are not harvested at the right time, they are often lost. 'Luke 11:37 And as he spake» a cer tain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went'in* and sat down to. meat. 38 And when the Pharisee saw it» he marveled that he had not first washed before dinner. 39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and .wickedness. 40 Ye fools, did not he» that made that which is without» make' that which is within also? 41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and» behold» all things are clean unto you. 42 But woe unto you» Pharisees! foj* ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and t(je love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. one of the original group of authorized apostles as were Matthew and John. Golden Text Illustration , L uke 10:2 The story is told. in Pastor Hsi of an old woman in China, who w^s ap parently a devoted Christian, but re fused to join the church. When the missionary asked her why she would not confess Christ, when she loved Him, she at last said that it was be cause there was one commandment of His she could not obey: she could not go into all the world to preach the gospel, being old, and afflicted with rheumatism, She could only tell her family and her friends about Him! How simply this woman had taken for granted that Christ’s words to His first disciples are binding on every true disciple today! The missionary thought of all the confessors of Christ in the home churches; but she did not tell the Chinese woman that His words were not meant for everybody. Every one can go “into all the world” in the ministry of prayer, and can begin some work at home. —The Sunday School Times. On a Trip for Jesus L uke 10:1-24 MEMORY VERSE: “Ye a r e my friends, if ye do whatsoever I com mand you” (John 15:14). APPROACH: Did you ever take a trip for some one else? Perhaps you went -to the store for Mother. Perhaps for Him, and He gave, them very spe cial instructions, too. Let us hear about that trip. LESSON STORY: Jesus called sev enty of His followers together and sent them out two by two. He did not send them to get something, though; He sent them to give something. He wanted them to go from house to house and to bring His peace and His healing to those within. He told them not to take money with them but to accept the hospitality offered them in each home. He promised that every city which received them should be blessed, but every city which refused to take them in should suffer for it. He said, “He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you de- spiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me” (Lk. 10:16). It is just as true today as it was your teacher sent you on an errand. W h e r e v e r y o u went, y o u w e r e given very special instructions, a n d you were expected to carry them out exactly. Once the Lord Jesus sent His followers on a trip

The Lord Jesus Christ realized that souls were like crops, and He said to His followers, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he Would send forth laborers into his harvest” (Lk. 10:2). The first thing we should do in or der that souls may be saved, is to pray. Christ told His disciples to pray, and later He commanded them to go to tell people about Him. Shall I leave these potatoes here on the table fpr weeks and months, or take them home now? “They Will spoil if you leave them here, and if you take them they will be gftod for food.” You are correct. They should be sacked and saved. It is the same way with the harvest of souls. There are people with whom we associate every day who may be lost for eternity un- * less we are fa ith fu lin praying for them and telling them about Christ’s power to save. Let us be faithful to Christ’s command in order that they may be numbered in the harvest of souls. 43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in tHe syna gogues, and greetings in the markets. 44 Woe unto you, scribes and Phar isees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. 45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. 46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 Woe u n t o you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, hnd your fathers killed them. 48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres. 52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye en tered not in yourselves, and them that were entering'in ye hindered. 53 And as he said these things unto them,/the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: 54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him. LESSON TEXT : Lk. 11:37-48, 52-54. GOLDEN TEXT : “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth” (Lk. 11:23). -A DEVOTIONAL. READING: Psa. 26:1-7.
