was upon earth, Jesus said, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate” (Lk. 13:24). His great wish was that all mén would come back to God. Do you know what the “strait gate” is? It is Jésüs. He said, “I am the door”%(John 10:9.) “No man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). Who will come in at the “strait gate” this morning?

When Jeremy Taylor had lost all— when his house had been plundered, and his family driven out of doors, and all his worldly estate had been sequestrated — he could still w r i t e thus: “I am fallen into the hands-of publicans and sequestrators, and they have taken all from 'me. What now? Let me look about me. They have left me the sun and moon and a lov ing wife, and many friends to pity me, and some to relieve me; and I can still discourse, and unless I list, they have not taken away my merry countenance and my cheerful spirit, And a good conscience; they have still left me the providence of God, and all the promises of God, and my reli gion, and my hopes of heaven, and my charity to them, too; and still I sleep and digest, I eat and drink, I read and meditate. And he that hath so many causes of joy, and so great, is very much in love with sorrow and peevishness, who loves all these pleas ures, and chooses' to sit down upon his little handful of thorns.”— Tools for Teachers, by Will Moodie., APPROACH: Every one likes to wish. Do you know the little wishing rhyme which some people say when they see the evening star? It goes like this: “S t a rl i g h t, star bright, First star I see to night, I w i s h I ma y , I A SgHHSjj wish I might R ) Have the w i s h I e * m m a wish tonight.” “ * jj. js jugt a siiiy couldn’t make a wish come true. Who does make our wishes come true? Do you think that God has any wishes Himself? Let me tell you of the great wish that was in the heart of God when He sent Jesus into the world. LESSON STORY: You have probably heard the s t o r y of Adam and Eve. When they were first created, they were very happy in their garden home because God came down and walked and talked with them. But one day they disobeyed God and their happi ness was spoiled. Since then all the people in the world have wanted to disobey God, too, and this makes Him sad. He wants to walk and talk with men again, but He can’t so long as they have sin in their hearts. So He sent the Lord Jesus into the world to

Object Lesson H idden or H elpful

OBJECTS: Two crosses. (The cross es should be about 12 inches high. One is made of cardboard, and' the other of thin paper. Color both red.) LESSON: In looking at these red crosses, I am reminded of what Jesus said in Luke 14:27: “Whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.” When a person becomes a Christian, the cross of Christ becomes his own in a very real way. It is Jesus’ desire that His. followers give a Christian testiihony wherever they go. These crosses look very much alike, but they are different. One is made of stiff, cardboard, and the other is made of thin paper. The paper one can be folded and placed out of sight under my coat. If I try to hide the cardboard cross, it is stiff and lets others know that there is something under my coat. There are those who have claimed to receive Christ as a personal Sav iour, and yet they carry a folded cross which can be hidden easily. On rare occasions, they might unfold the cross and reveal it if asked whether or not they were Christians. The one who carries a hidden cross is of no help to unsaved people, and he does not please Christ. . One of the reasons that there are not more people accepting Christ as Saviour today is that many are carry ing a folded cross. Their cross looks as good as any other on Sunday, when they are in the house of God, asso ciating with Christians; but it is a folded cross during the week, and they can easily get it out of sight when with those who are not Christians.- I feel confident that the Lord Jesus is pleased when His followers have a lip and life testimony which can be seen clearly and can he understood .by those whom they meet each day. Let /us carry a fixed -and not a folded cross.
