A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT: “Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified” (v. 5). “Fear not”—

April 12 and 19— CHESTER J. PADGETT

April 26— KERMIT L. BYRD

1. “Because ye seek Jesus.” Those Who are intent on seeking the Lord Jesus will not be content or satisfied in finding angels. This holy angel that so frightened the keepers did not satisfy the seekers (cf. John 12:21, “We would see Jesus” ; Deut. 4:29; Lam. 3:25; Amos 5:4). 2. “Because ye seek Jesus, which . was crucified.” Those who seek Jesus apart from the crucifixion may well fear (Heb. 9:22). Only those who knew the Crucified One found the. Risen One. To His disciples alone did He appear- after His resurrection. If we will not die'with Him, neither will we rise with Him. II. A STARTLING ANNOUNCEMENT: “He is not here: for he is risen” (v. 6). 1. “He is not here.” “Why seek ye the living a m o n g the dead?” (Lk. 24:5). How many there are still on this vain search! They are seeking the right thing, yes, but in the wrong place. They are seeking, life among dead forms, dead works, and dead feelings. These are wells without ,water—graves! 2. "He is risen.” Herod is dead! Pontius Pilate is dead! Judas Iscariot is dead! Voltaire is . dead! Darwin is dead! Mohammed is dead! Joseph Smith is dead! Mary Baker Eddy'is dead! BUT JESUS CHRIST IS GLORI OUSLY ALIVE! HE IS RISEN! III. A TENDER INVITATION: “Come, see the place where the Lord lay” '(v . 6).

In many ,respects the resurrection of Christ is the most important fact of Christian history. It is the corner stone of Christian doctrine. The aton ing death of Jesus Christ ’ and His resurrection are the two fundamental truths of the gospel (1 Cor. 15:1, 3, 4). At Calvary the Son of God took on Himself the sin of all mankind, be coming the Substitute for all who re ceive Him as Saviour. Calvary loses its meaning without the resurrection. Without the resurrection, the death of Christ would have been only the heroic death of a noble martyr; with the resurrection it is the atoning death of the Son of God. The resurrection was God’s mighty and glorious seal upon the atoning work accomplished on the crqss. What a glorious thought—“Christ Is Risen!” The tragedy of the cross is over, and the sympathetic women still stand gazing on the lifeless form of their Beloved. They see Him laid in a new tomb, and early in the morn ing on the first day of the week they come with precious spices to embalm His body and preserve the dead Christ. Oh, how foolish, we become when we forget His words (cf. John 2,:19)! Earthquakes and angels work havoc to the plans, of men, and the stone is rolled away before their eyes. For Those V/ho Have Topics From the angel at the tomb of Christ, the sorrowing women received:
