A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 7
We had a very enjoyable afternoon on Tuesday at the Rose Theatre watching a performance of Robin Hood, which had a Christmas twist to its storyline. The Year 7s were a very engaged audience, clapping and cheering in all the right places! This week in tutor time Year 7 have been writing a letter to their future selves. Their form tutor will look after these letters which will be given back to them in the last few days of year 11. This is a lovely experience and one my previous year group enjoyed a great deal. Thank you to those Year 7s who raised money for Readathon this year. It is a very worthy cause and together we raised just over £1000. Special thanks to Josie H, 7FGC and Ariadne K, 7ESU both in year 7, who raised more than £55 each. With the end of term getting closer here are the top 3 tutor groups; in 3rd place 7SON, 2nd 7PCO and in 1st place are 7PFO. At the top of the individual leaderboard it is very close, 3rd is Sasha 7PFO, 2nd Emilia 7ESU and 1st Mia 7PFO. Keep working hard and engaging in lessons to earn even more Epraise points. We have lots of festive events coming up, with our annual Carol Concert this evening at St Augustine’s in Whitton from 5pm and next Tuesday is Waldegrave Christmas Jumper day! We are encouraging students to wear their brightest, funniest, craziest Christmas jumpers, and support Save the Children charity by donating £1 to help children in some of the toughest places have a better future. Students must wear their normal uniform but may wear a Christmas themed jumper - please borrow one from a friend/sibling or find one in a charity shop, or take this as an opportunity to get creative by taking an old (plain) jumper and give it some Christmas magic by adding some decorations or tinsel for an extra bit of bling! Donations can be made on ParentPay. Finally the Winter Festival performance will be taking place on Friday 13 at 7pm in the School Hall. You can buy tickets to the Winter Festival here for £5 each.
MRS BASHFORD-HYNES, HEAD OF YEAR 7
‘Holes’ - Louis Sachar A teen boy, Stanley Yelnats, is sent to a Texas juvenile camp called Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. His punishment at the camp: dig holes, all day, every day. As he digs, Stanley discovers the mysteries of the camp and his family’s rich history, as well as making a few friends, including Zero, who he helps along the way. Overall, this is a great story for any age with a mix of humour and friendship (as well as a bit of social commentary). - Isabelle H, Y11 BOOK OF THE MONTH
