Use these ideas to enhance the “Rain or Sun, Stories are Fun!” Storytime Plan.
Young children develop self-confidence through their growing abilities to do everyday tasks. Choosing what to wear as weather changes can be a great source of pride for them. As children engage in thinking and learning about how weather affects our daily lives, the ideas here may broaden their awareness of how to adjust to change, including dressing appropriately for the weather.

Getting Started Creating a Positive Environment
Fill the learning environment with weather-related resources that are appropriate to the seasons, such as old raincoats for the dramatic play area, watering cans for making rain at the water table, a child-safe fan for testing wind resistance in the block corner, printed weather reports in the writing area, and so on. Enhance your daily circle time with more talk about the day’s weather, helping children become little weather watchers! Engaging Families Invite families to talk together about the weather and how we can prepare and dress for different weather. Make enough copies of the Cozy Corner Family Time page so that each child can take one home to make a “My Weather Book.” Meeting Individual Needs Use the additional curriculum connections and center activities in this guide to customize learning experiences for children who need additional motivation, challenge, or support.
