Imagining fictional bears and story characters
Use these ideas to enhance the “Imagine That! Bears!” Storytime Plan.
The stories in this theme all involve bears, familiar characters in children’s stories. Each story demonstrates how resilience is needed to solve problems. These bear stories help children understand that while some problems are clear and quickly resolved, others take more time and persistence to resolve. Young children are natural problem solvers and enjoy discussing solutions to real and make-believe problems.

Getting Started Creating a Positive Environment
Encourage children to experience adventures and solve problems like the characters in this theme’s stories. Send home a request to bring in a teddy bear or other favorite stuffed animal. Guide children to embark upon adventures with their teddy bears by adding items to spark imaginative thinking throughout the classroom: Turn the block corner into a forest, provide ice cubes in the water play area, or use tape on the floor to make a simple obstacle course. Engaging Families For this last theme, thank families for participating in Cozy Corner. Make enough copies of the Cozy Corner Family Time page so that each child can take one home to make a “My Adventure Book.” Encourage families to continue reading this and other child-made books at home. Meeting Individual Needs Use the additional curriculum connections and center activities in this guide to customize learning experiences for children who need additional motivation, challenge, or support.
