Auburn Baseball Concludes Season with loss in NCAA Super Regional
SIDELINE SPORTS RIDER OF THE YEAR- Sophomore Avery Glynn of the Auburn equestrian team has been named the 2024-25 National Collegiate Equestrian Association’s Fences Rider of the Year. Glynn, a Petaluma, California native, finished the year at 13-0-0 overall in Fences and finished the regular season with a 5-0-0 mark vs. SEC opponents. She was named SEC Fences Rider of the Year and picked up First Team All-American and All-SEC honors for her efforts. FLORIDA BASKETBALL - The Florida men's basketball team will square off against UConn in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The Gators and Huskies will meet for the second straight season, following Florida's 77-75 NCAA second-round win in March on the way to its 2025 national championship. The game will air at 9 p.m. on ESPN as the second half of a doubleheader, following BYU vs. Clemson. In addition to the Jimmy V Classic, the Gators open the season with another high-profile showdown vs. Arizona in the Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas. UF will also compete in the Rady Children's Invitational Nov. 27-28 in San Diego, where Florida will play two games against a field consisting of Providence, TCU and Wisconsin. ALABAMA TO PLAY CLEMSON - The Alabama men's basketball team will host the Clemson Tigers in the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday, December 3 at Coleman Coliseum. It will mark the 14th meeting between the Crimson Tide and Tigers in series history and third time in the last three seasons. The programs last met on March 30, 2024 in the Elite Eight during the NCAA Tournament, as Alabama advanced to its first-ever Final Four, defeating Clemson 89-82. The Crimson Tide suffered a 77-85 loss to the Tigers in the last meeting during the ACC/SEC Challenge on Nov. 28, 2023 at Coleman Coliseum. Clemson holds a 4-0 record when playing Alabama at Coleman Coliseum.

The Chanticleers scored the go-ahead run with two outs in the seventh, capitalizing on a fielding error at first after a slow roller to the mound, ending the outing for Fisher (1-3), who struck out four and allowed only one earned run in 2.2 innings. Coastal added a third run in the inning off relievers Cam Tilly and Parker Carlson on a walk and a hit batter with the bases loaded. The Chanticleers scored an insurance run in the eighth with a leadoff double and an RBI single to go ahead 4-1. Coastal Carolina (53-11) will take a 23-game winning streak to Omaha for the College World Series. Auburn (41-20) concludes a historic season in which the Tigers went 17-13 in SEC play, earned the No. 4 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, swept the Auburn Regional and hosted a super regional for the first time in program history. “This will fuel us hopefully,” Thompson said. “These things are so hard to get to. I’m thankful for these guys. They did everything to move on. They did enough to be able to get there. We have enough backing and we have enough resources to where we should be knocking on this door in our fair share of times, the season should be ending in Omaha.” Saturday’s game marked the end of their Auburn careers for the Tigers’ seniors and some draft-eligible players.
Freshman Andreas Alvarez extended his scoreless innings streak to 16, but No. 13 Coastal Carolina scored four runs in its last two at-bats to sweep the NCAA Auburn Super Regional, defeating No. 4 Auburn 4-1 on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Plainsman Park. “Tip of the hat to Coastal. They played in all facets very well. Great run, great season for our guys,” Auburn coach Butch Thompson said. “Some of the young players helped us, our leadership was great. They made a difference for me, our fans. I’m forever grateful. The players gave us everything for the entire year. The guys battled hard.” The visiting team in game two, Auburn scored first for the second straight game, when Eric Snow drew a walk on a nine-pitch at-bat, then scored from first with two outs on Chase Fralick’s single to right. Alvarez held Coastal Carolina hitless until Ty Barrango led off the bottom of the third with a single to left. After a two-out walk and a wild pitch put two in scoring position, right fielder Ike Irish caught a line drive to preserve the Tigers’ lead. Alvarez induced a double play to erase a leadoff single in the bottom of the fourth, then stranded two runners to complete his fourth scoreless inning. Auburn threatened in the top of the fifth when Chris Rembert drew out a one-out walk and Bub Terrell followed with a single, but an infield fly and a strikeout ended the rally. Cade Fisher relieved Alvarez after a leadoff single in the bottom of fifth. After Coastal Carolina loaded the bases with no outs, Fisher sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around an infield fly to leave the bases loaded, thrilling the Auburn fans among the 7,841 in attendance. Alvarez scatted four hits in four shutout innings, ending his freshman season with 16 straight clean frames across four outings, including three starts and one relief appearance. Snead State Community College has appointed David Wisener as the new Head Coach of the Snead State Lady Parsons Tennis Program. “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Wisener to our athletics department,” said Snead State Athletic Director Casey Underwood. “Coach Wisener’s proven track record of success throughout Marshall County athletics will be a tremendous asset to our program. We’re confident that he will expand a program of excellence and integrity within our tennis program.” Coach Wisener is stepping into the role following the retirement of Coach Matt Holaday. Holaday served as head coach for 12 years. Before coming to Snead State, he served as the head coach for both the boys and girls tennis teams at Guntersville High School and Madison Academy. While coaching at Snead State, he continued to teach at Guntersville Middle School. He also had two brief stints as the head coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Coach Wisener comes to Snead State after 18 years of coaching at Douglas High School in Marshall County. Wisener began coaching Tennis and Cross Country at Douglas High School in 2007, where he led the Tennis Program to six County Tournament titles, seven Sectional Tournament Titles, two Alabama State Doubles Tournament titles, and seven Alabama State Top 5 Tournament Team finishes. Known for his strategic coaching style and emphasis on academic and personal growth, Coach Wisener has earned respect both regionally and nationally. Coach Wisener holds a Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. “I’m honored to join Snead State Community College and lead the tennis program,” said Coach Wisener.
“It was a good feeling to compete like that against certain teams,” Alvarez said. “The last couple teams I’ve faced I’ve really felt confident on the mound. Being able to have the team behind me was huge, and all the fans throughout the postseason was really huge for my confidence as well.” Auburn had at least one baserunner in all nine innings. Job well done for every one of those guys. That’s what allowed us to get here to have a chance and an opportunity to dream about advancing one more step.” Auburn was hosting a super regional for the first time in program history. In game one, the Tigers fell to Coastal Carolina 7-6 in 10 innings.
Gadsden State Community College head baseball coach Blake Lewis has been named the 2025 ACCC Coach of the Year. Aaron Wallace, a sophomore infielder from Hueytown, earned Player of the Year recognition and was named to the ACCC Division I All-Conference First Team along with teammate, Jayden Roberts. In his second season as head baseball coach, Lewis has been instrumental in revitalizing the Gadsden State baseball program. Under his leadership, the Cardinals have experienced a remarkable turnaround, improving from a 13-37 record in 2024 to a 38-13 record in 2025 securing the No. 2 seed in the ACCC Division I Region Tournament.
