James Monroe School celebrated literacy and community through this year’s One School, One Book program, featuring The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. The initiative kicked off with excitement as every student received a free copy of the book to take home and enjoy with their families. To support shared reading, teachers recorded read-aloud videos so students could follow along at home. Each morning, the school tuned in to a comprehension question “call-in” challenge during announcements sparking discussion. Inspired by the book’s themes, the school also hosted Alex’s Lemonade Stand, supporting the fight against childhood cancer. The event concluded with a school-wide read aloud of the final chapter and a refreshing cup of lemonade for every student to celebrate a successful school- wide reading experience.

A Zesty Summer of Learning

James Monroe School kicked off summer in flavorful fashion, thanks to the creativity and planning of our incredible Intervention Team. Families and students enjoyed a fun-filled event designed to promote learning and connection as the school year came to a close. Highlights included a lively Family Game Show that brought everyone together for laughs and learning. Students also received Summer Learning Materials to keep their skills sharp during the break and a visit from the Ice Cream Truck added a sweet touch to the day. It was a joyful and meaningful way to celebrate the end of the school year while setting students up for continued growth over the summer.
