ROHAN MURPHY John Adams Middle School
On March 28, 2025 motivational speaker Rohan Murphy visited JAMS and shared his inspirational story with the entire student body. Rohan is a nationally recognized youth speaker that has spoken in over 40 states. Rohan, who lost his legs at birth, started to wrestle during his freshman year of high school and continued his wrestling career at Penn State University. In addition to wrestling, Rohan Murphy is also an accomplished powerlifter, competing in international competitions all over the world, representing the USA. Rohan encouraged students that they, too, should never give up: “I want all of you to chase your dreams no matter how far away they may seem…I will not have one easy day in my life, but if I can overcome this, why can’t you? What’s stopping you?”
GIRLS WHO CODE
CLUB SPOTLIGHT
GWC club, with advisor Mrs. Nangia, had another successful and exciting school year! The club provides an opportunity for young girls who are interested in pursuing careers in coding or computer science. Members designed websites using HTML, CSS, and beginner JavaScript. Members also learned coding fundamentals, collaboration skills, and grew confidence in using tech tools. Former members are pursuing STEM courses, internships, or college majors in computer science or engineering.
STUDENT COUNCIL
This year the Student Council focused on helping our school and community. The students, along with advisors Mrs. Cardoso, Mrs. Hickman, and Mr. Redding, worked to help the community in a variety of ways. Our Thanksgiving Food Drive was a success and baskets were made for families within our school community. Another big event was a food drive for the Edison Women’s Shelter. We were able to drop off baskets of food to help the community. Our Student Council was run extremely effectively with student leadership from our president, Freya Rayal and co-vice presidents, Gia Bhagatji and Sumdeh Malladi. Student voice was heard at each meeting!
