ESP OF THE YEAR - JOHN PEACH

STUDENT R.I.S.E TEAM

The Student R.I.S.E. team, with advisor Mrs. Cardoso, worked all year to develop their leadership skills. This year they had the opportunity to attend a leadership conference at Kean University, create their own lessons, and lead their peers. After spending the year focusing on identifying a need within the school community, 8th grade students presented to 6th graders about ways to reduce stress and competition with grades. This year’s ESP of the Year is John Peach. As the site manager for sports, a relatively new role within our district, John has excelled in fostering effective communication among coaches, administrators, and athletes. His commitment to ensuring that JAMS is always well-represented is evident in the pride he takes in his work and his willingness to go above and beyond in all his responsibilities. John's efforts have not only enhanced the sports programs at JAMS but have also strengthened the sense of community and teamwork among all involved. His hard work and dedication continue to make a positive impact on our school and its athletic programs. Congratulations, John!

groups even had the opportunity to present at the district leadership conference at Middlesex County College. We look forward to continuing to expand this effort with our new team next year!

ATTENDANCE MATTERS! WITH MRS. DESIMONE

The primary focus at JAMS for improving attendance is to create relationships with students that provide connection, encouragement, and support. As the Attendance Counselor, I regularly meet with students to check in... Are you here? Let’s connect on how it’s going! I offer a consistent presence, helping them feel seen and motivated to attend school. Many students who were previously chronically absent now attend regularly because they know someone is looking for them each day.

The JAMS approach is never punitive. Instead, we promote the message: “We hope to see you ready for the day – you matter here.” We emphasize that each student is a big part of our Knight community. Communication with families always increases school attendance, and we rely on daily phone calls, emails of inquiry, and letters sent to the home with absence totals to engage parents and guardians in the improvement process. For students with ongoing attendance challenges, we invite parents in for collaborative meetings that are grounded in empathy. We at JAMS recognize that life is difficult, and we work to ensure families feel welcomed and supported. Through interventions and understanding, we aim to remove barriers and reinforce the message that JAMS is a safe, supportive place where every Knight has his/her special quest, and it begins with showing up each day!
