Transformations on the Horizon FOR THE BERMAN FAMILY — AND YOU!
October is in the air, and the one-month countdown is officially on for baby Berman No. 3! We are more excited than ever, but we’ve done less to prepare for this baby than the previous two by far. I think the only thing we’ve really done so far was simply think about where the swaddles might be… It’s funny how different it is from the firstborn. Heck, I may not even change any diapers now that Stella has mastered changing diapers on her baby dolls! Speaking of Stella, she’s been so fun to ask what her thoughts have been throughout this pregnancy. During the first 3 months, she really didn’t understand what we were saying, but as soon as Jenni started showing, she immediately understood and regularly told Mommy, “You need to get that baby out of there NOW”! Then, from months 4-6, Stella was determined the baby was a boy and that if it came out a girl, she would have nothing to do with it and wouldn’t love it. Then, for whatever reason, last month, she switched and is now convinced it’s another baby sister and allegedly won’t have anything to do with it if a boy comes out. So, I guess the verdict is out, and your guess is as good as ours!
maintaining your independence. We gave away over $30,000 in FREE sessions in the first week of the promotion and a grand total of $72,359 in total FREE sessions!!! We had seven customers purchase our 30-visit program, which allowed them to come in five days a week for six full weeks (through Oct. 15). Let me tell you about transformations! I knew there was a direct correlation between how many sessions you come in our office and how good your body performs, but holy cow! The amount of physical (and emotional) improvements these customers made over the past 4–6 weeks was absolutely worth every penny! So, if you are one of those who took advantage of that promotion, thank you very much for trusting us with your health care! Thank you for trusting that more really is better, and congratulations on making the commitment to your future self. You are now in a position that makes you much less fragile and way more likely to avoid “getting old” than you were just two short months ago. And if you’re not one of those who took advantage of that amazing opportunity, I hope you feel like you missed out! I hope you really second-guess why you didn’t take advantage of this win-win opportunity when reading my emails and posts. I legitimately have your best interests at heart, and this was 100% for you. I’m not sure if I’ll run that promotion again simply because, from a business perspective, that really did hurt, BUT if I do, you’d better be the first to jump on the bandwagon! Lastly, please be patient with me and my team next month, as who knows when this next baby is going to come. I don’t plan on taking paternity leave (whatever the hell that is), but you never know what’s gonna happen with our pregnancies/ deliveries. For whatever reason, we really
Which reminds me, it’s time to get your guesses in! Just like the previous two
babies, I want to know what YOUR guess is! I want to know if you think it’s going to be a boy or girl, what the actual delivery date will be, height, and weight. The official “due date” is Dec. 3; however, we are scheduled for another C-section the week before, but none of that really matters as Stella came four weeks early and Vera came one week early, so your guess is as good as any at this point! Switching gears, I have to tell you about the success of last month’s promotion! I was absolutely blown away by the overwhelming interest and commitment to your health and
don’t like doing anything the boring normal way, so please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and maybe this will be the first one that actually goes the way it should! Cheers!

TASTY TAKEOUT TRANSFORMATION YOUR GO-TO GUIDE FOR HEALTHY TO-GO FOOD CHOICES
Manage your portion sizes. Many fast food joints serve big portions you can split into two meals, so always watch how much food you order. Avoid supersizing your meal and stick to the smallest serving sizes for sides, drinks, and main entrees. Our favorite takeout hack is to check out the kid’s menu. The children-size hamburgers at most restaurants typically contain only 250–300 calories, so you will still get a solid serving of protein with less fat — and save a little money. Skip the add-ons. When you crave fast food, every calorie counts. Say no to add-ons or extras for your meal, like bacon or cheese. Sauces and dressings often have extra calories and sugar, so avoiding them or asking for them on the side is best. If you want condiments on your food, like mayonnaise, ask them to add only a light amount or ask for sauce packets so you can control those extra calories. Some healthy and tasty swaps for flavor are avocado, hummus, or salsa. So, remember these tips to keep your meal delicious and healthier next time you’re in the drive-thru line. You can enjoy a world of flavors without sacrificing your well-being by making mindful choices and small swaps.
Are you hungry for some delicious takeout but want to keep it healthy? Whether you’re craving spicy Szechuan or dreaming of a cheesy slice of pizza, we’ve got your back with the ultimate guide to guilt- free takeout! From swapping
out egg rolls for lighter spring rolls to skipping your hamburger bun,
discover how to indulge in your favorite cuisines without compromising health. So, grab your fork, and let’s dive into the menu of nutritious takeout options that will satisfy your cravings and keep you healthy. Avoid fried foods. Many of the most popular dishes at fast-food restaurants are battered and fried. Look for items on the menu that are baked, steamed, roasted, or grilled, as they are healthier alternatives. Fried foods are high in calories and trans fat, which could negatively impact your health. Simple swaps like choosing a veggie burger instead of a regular burger with bacon or a baked potato instead of fries can make all the difference.

EXPLORING THE MARVELS OF YOUR SKELETAL SYSTEM! ‘BONE’ VOYAGE
Make no bones about it; our skeletons are a real rib-tickler of fascinating facts! From the impressive strength of our thigh bones to the tiny marvels of the inner ear, your bones are the unsung heroes of your body. So, rest your bones in a comfy chair because we are about to dig up some of the most shocking skeletal secrets. Babies have more bones than adults. Although babies are tiny, their bodies have many bones in a pudgy, little package. Human babies have about 300 bones compared to an adult’s 206. Many extra bones are entirely or partly made of cartilage, allowing the baby to stay flexible in the womb. Over time, the bones fuse and decrease in number. Fracture rates are highest when kids are around ages 11–15, the critical time for significant growth spurts thanks to growth plates that close as we age. Half of our bones are in our feet and hands. Did you know that many of our bones are in the smaller extremities of our body? Nearly half of our 206 adult bones are in our hands and feet! Each foot has 26 bones, and our hands both have 27 bones, which is 106 bones. Our hands
even have a bonus bone called the pisiform, located on the outside edge of our wrists. The funny bone is a nerve. Have you ever hit your funny bone? Well, you are not hitting a bone at all. This area on the body is part of the ulnar nerve, which goes from your neck to your hand. Bone, muscle, and fat typically protect nerves, but a small portion of this nerve on the back of your elbow is more exposed. So, when you hit your funny bone, named for its location near the humerus bone (a homophone of “humorous”), you’re really bumping into the ulnar nerve. So, now that you’ve “boned up” on the most fascinating fossil facts, give your skeleton a little nod for the incredible things it does to support you and keep you moving!

OZEMPIC - A MIRACLE DRUG?
What is the connection between Ozempic and insulin resistance?
Have you heard of the trendy medication that has taken Hollywood by a storm? If you are keeping up with the news, you know the medical drug I am talking about! This injectable medication is called Ozempic (Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound…) and it has risen in popularity due to its weight loss benefits. Multiple influencers and celebrities like Elon Musk and Chelsea Handler have raved about it. Ozempic became such a hot commodity that there was a supply shortage across the nation, then the ability to get the medication as brand-name became increasingly more difficult. You may also know the medication by its compounded name Semaglutide and Trizepatide. With all of the hype surrounding this medication, you may be wondering if Ozempic is right for you. After all, it seems as though Ozempic is a miracle drug for weight loss given all of the attention it is getting!! What is Ozempic? Ozempic is the brand name for a medication called Semaglutide. It was approved by the FDA in 2017 for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes, and it belongs to a class of drugs called GLP-1 receptor agonists. GLP-1 is a hormone released from our gut after we eat. Ozempic mimics GLP-1 and acts on its receptors, which are primarily located in four areas of the body: the pancreas, the brain, the liver, and the gastrointestinal tract. How is Ozempic administered? Ozempic is injected once a week under the skin of your upper arm, thighs, or abdomen. The dose is slowly increased depending on the patient and results.
Insulin is a hormone released from your pancreas that helps regulate blood glucose, or sugar, by helping blood sugar get into your cells to be used for energy. If you are constantly eating high carb foods throughout the day, your blood sugar will spike multiple times throughout the day. This causes your pancreas to release more insulin to try to overcome the increasing blood sugar levels. In insulin resistance, your cells stop responding to insulin, which leads to excess sugar in the bloodstream. When excess blood sugar is not metabolized correctly, it can give rise to other conditions such as weight gain, heart disease, and more. Eventually, insulin resistance can lead to Prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Ozempic helps patients with insulin resistance eat more sensibly by reducing sugar cravings and appetite for better portion control. However, this medication works best when paired with balancing carbohydrates with adequate protein and fiber intake. Is Ozempic the same as Metformin? Ozempic is not the same as Metformin, although both medications help control blood sugar levels. Metformin is an oral pill that is FDA approved for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. It is also used off-label in the treatment of insulin resistance, prediabetes, gestational diabetes, and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). It works by decreasing the amount of glucose produced by the liver, lowering sugar absorption in the intestine, and making your cells more susceptible to insulin. So, should I take Ozempic? Ozempic can be effective for optimizing blood sugar levels, assisting with weight loss, and giving you control back if used appropriately. You must also rule out that the medication is not contraindicated for you. At our clinic, we focus on nutrition based medicine, dietary changes, proper vitamin levels, and energy expenditure. With detailed evaluations of our clients, we are able to identify if the generic Semaglutide is a good fit for our clients to treat insulin resistance, prediabetes, and Type 2 diabetes in combination with our treatment protocols and plans. It is vital to use this medication with fueling the body appropriately to maintain adequate muscle mass while losing fat mass. It is also important to monitor vitamin levels to ensure levels do not drop too low. We also focus on improving sleep and stress, as these two factors can impact blood sugar stability. It is important to take Ozempic in combination with healthy lifestyle practices to ensure that you do not gain the weight back after stopping Ozempic. –Jenni Berman PA-C, CPT, CNS, CICI
What are the benefits of taking Ozempic? Potential benefits of Ozempic are: • Weight loss • Reduced appetite • Reduced cravings • Blood sugar stability • Feeling in control of your meal plan again
There is also evidence that GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Ozempic, reduce the risk of heart attacks and stroke in patients with Type 2 diabetes. What are the side effects of Ozempic? The most common side effects associated with Ozempic are the following: • Gastrointestinal side effects • Low iron levels • Loss of muscle mass if not used with the proper meal plan • Vitamin Deficiencies • Inflammation of the pancreas • Allergic reaction
