Launchpad Magazine Summer Issue 5 (Mobile)

You've documented bull runs, indigenous oil battles, and dog culling - what drew you specically to Liverpool's underground cycling scene? at’s easy - the people. I’ve been to some incredible places and lmed some unbelievable stu, but without the right person to guide the audience through the journey, a documentary is impossible. Within minutes of speaking to Robbo on the phone for the rst time I knew that he was exactly what I was looking for. ere are very few people in the world as passionate about ANYTHING as Robbo is about cycling, and as a lmmaker, whenever you stumble upon one of these people you have the opportunity to make magic!

How do you balance capturing authentic underground culture without exposing or exploiting it? Do you worry about bringing unwanted attention to these scenes? roughout the production of Concrete Summer, there was never a moment where the documentary was capturing anything but the best of the scene. ere are plenty of stories which could be told about this culture, but the one I was always going for was a tale of passion trumping all else. roughout the process I constantly sent Robbo every new edit too, which meant that he personally signed o on all of the scenes and themes explored in the lm.
