Abstract: This study examines the effectiveness of the roles undertaken by the Arab elite during the Israeli war on Gaza since 7 October 2023. It investigates the initiatives this societal group launched in response to the war crimes and acts of genocide targeting the Palestinian people. The research identifies the priorities of the elite, the visions that frame their initiatives and intellectual activity, and their relationships with local, regional and international political and social environments. The study posits that divergent ideological and intellectual reference points among the Arab elite have contributed to fragmented positions and contested roles during the war. Furthermore, it argues that the elite failed to develop a new strategy that could enhance Palestinian unity or foster a global movement in support of the justice of the Palestinian cause. Methodologically, the study adopts a mixed approach that combines statistical analysis with a descriptive survey method to assess the condition of the Arab elite and evaluate the effectiveness of their performance in confronting genocide. This was based on a purposive sample of 414 respondents, including intellectuals, academics, researchers, politicians, media professionals, religious scholars, artists, and others. The study also employs role theory as an analytical framework for understanding and interpreting the nature of the roles assumed by the Arab elite. The study arrives at several findings, including evidence of strong elite engagement in the cultural, media and human rights spheres. In contrast, it reveals weakness in political performance, strategic thinking and efforts toward unity. Fewer than one-third of respondents (30 %) expressed satisfaction with the elite’s performance in articulating a Palestinian liberation vision in coordination with Palestinians. Less than half (46 %) evaluated the elite’s role positively in raising awareness about Israeli occupation across the Arab world and internationally, while just over one-third (40 %) acknowledged its
