SCHOOL COUNCIL REPORT

AMANDA FARRELLY SCHOOL COUNCIL PRESIDENT

Dear Families,

Endorsed a decision for our uniform supplier to continue ordering and selling the current uniform ‘ bottoms ’ (ie, the shorts and trackpants), but without our school logo, as part of the implementation of the Victorian Government ’ s recent uniform policy changes. Discussed another recent Victorian Government decision on new Principal powers to suspend/expel students for bullying behaviour outside of school. Mr Panas clarified the situations on how and when that policy can be applied. It was also interesting to hear from our staff reps on their perspective of this decision. Acknowledged drainage issues at the end of the rear pathway (leading from the top gate) on Primary and actioned for a temporary solution to be found, noting that this path will be impacted by the new Kindergarten construction in the near future.

Firstly, huge congratulations to everyone involved with our Semester 1 Performing Arts Showcase, Hall of Fame – A Celebration of Music Legends, this week. Everyone did an amazing and fabulous job. Similarly, to our bi - annual Production, the night not only showcases our school ’ s talented students, but there is also the intangible benefit that it brings both Campuses together as a united school and boosts pride, all of which align with the core areas of our school ’ s Strategic Plan. We are all really looking forward to the Semester 2 Performing Arts Showcase later this year, plus our star Production event, Freaky Friday, in August, with tickets going on sale next week. Our Secondary Campus has been buzzing with exams this week and last week. Best of luck to all of our students and I hope once they are over, everyone takes a moment to reward themselves during the school holidays, relax and recharge. Lastly, please don ’ t forget to put an order in our Fundraising Committee ’ s Pie Drive! Tony ’ s Pies of Essendon have a large variety of savoury pies, sweet pies, pasties, quiches and sausage rolls to order. Orders close on Tuesday 22 July , with delivery on Friday 25 July (week 1 of Term 3).

Discussed the challenges facing schools with hosting school camps.

As always, if you have any issues, ideas, questions that you would like raised at our next Council meeting, or any other support, we are more than happy to hear from families so please feel free to send me an email to amanda.farrelly@education.vic.gov.au. Council meets twice per Term on a Tuesday at 5:30pm and visitors and observers are always welcome!

Our most recent School Council was another very productive meeting. Key highlights are:

Endorsed sending a letter to the Victorian Government from School Council, on behalf of the parent/carer community, advocating to reverse their decision to delay funding contribution increases to Victorian Government schools until 2031. Heard from our Secondary Captains and Year 7 - 12 Term highlights. Our Captains also raised with us their top four Secondary campus issues, on behalf of students, for School Council to consider. Reviewed the recent Education Week Open Morning on Primary and how it could be improved for next year.

Enjoy the July break and hope to see everyone again in Term 3,

Amanda Farrelly School Council President
