FACIAL FILLERS FAQ Learn More About This Common Facial Rejuvenation Procedure
Facial fillers are a great fit if you’re looking for a facial rejuvenation procedure that is low risk, has a quick recovery time, and is well tolerated by the body. WHAT CAN FILLERS DO FOR YOU? Fillers do just what their name suggests — they fill and volumize areas on the face to eliminate lines and fill in depressions. They are commonly used to do the following:
Though that’s not an exhaustive list, those are the areas our patients request the most and benefit from the most. ARE FILLERS SAFE? Here at Eye Plastic Associates, we only use fillers with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring, gel- like substance already present in and produced by the skin. As with any procedure, there are some risks involved. However, hyaluronic acid injections are very low risk and reversible. If a lump or bump occurs, we can address it with a dissolving agent. Allergic reactions or an infection related to this type of filler are very rare. WHAT’S THE PROCEDURE LIKE AND HOW LONG DOES HEALING TAKE? Because hyaluronic acid is so well tolerated, no pre-testing is required. That means you just need an appointment for the injections and a follow-up a few weeks later to check in with Dr. Scott.
Some patients worry that the procedure will be painful, but it’s only as painful as a typical needle stick. Lidocaine (a numbing solution) is mixed with the filler to help reduce immediate discomfort and pain. Most patients find that once the lidocaine has worn off, they don’t need any pain medication. After the procedure, some swelling or bruising may occur as your body adapts, but this often goes away quickly. Some patients don’t experience any bruising and are fully healed in 3–5 days, while others need 7–10 days. We have several procedures available to help with facial rejuvenation. Fillers work well with other processes like Botox and Kybella (fat dissolving agent). INGREDIENTS
“All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” –Abraham Lincoln
• • • • •
1 lb asparagus spears 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp Dijon mustard
• • •
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/8 tsp red pepper flakes Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
3 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
DIRECTIONS
1. With a vegetable peeler, shave each asparagus spear from tip to base. This is easiest to do if the asparagus is on a flat surface. 2. Place shaved asparagus in a bowl and blot off excess moisture with a paper towel. 3. In a separate bowl, make a vinaigrette by whisking together lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and olive oil. 4. Pour vinaigrette over shaved asparagus and add Parmesan cheese, salt, red pepper flakes, and black pepper. Toss to combine. Taste and adjust seasonings.
