The smoothness of a node depends on how you draw it: Drag for smooth node, tap for cusp node.
Drag a short distance for smooth node
Tap in place for cusp node
Note that the direction of the dragging gesture doesn't matter.
You can mix smooth and cusp nodes in one path
You can toggle smoothness of existing nodes at any time
