River fest has ripple effect

Family celebrations were organized in each municipality along with the two Poker Runs. About 5,000 peo- ple gathered to gaze at the boats and Mus- tangs. The Poker Run Rendez-vous and the Rockland Ford Classic launched from du Moulin Park in Rockland. A barbeque was held in Wendover, raising money to im- prove the schoolyard of L’école St-Joseph. Meanwhile, at the Old L’Orignal Jail, festival-goers cheered on soapbox derby racers. In Hawkesbury, the rides at Con- federation Park and the sidewalk sale on Main Street added even more festivities to the festival, while in Chute-à-Blondeau, the East Hawkesbury volunteer firefighters served their guests a delicious breakfast. “I’d also like to emphasize the charitable nature of these activities: the Poker Run Rendez-vous raises money for Prostate Cancer Canada, while the Rockland Ford Classic has partnered with the Breast Can- cer Society of Canada,” says Warden Fran- çois St-Amour.

L’ORIGNAL | The inaugural Ottawa River Festival was such as success organizers are hoping to make it an annual event. It is important to cele- brate our river and appreciate its role in the development of our region. This is a unique event and one that will now take place ev- ery summer,” says Sylvain Charlebois, Direc- tor of the Prescott-Russell Economic Devel- opment and Tourism department. The communities of Clarence-Rockland, Wendover, Lefaivre, L’Orignal, Hawkesbury and Chute-à-Blondeau gathered together from July 6 to 8 to celebrate the Ottawa River during its very first festival.
