Cornerstone PT Patients
SHOWING UP FOR ONE ANOTHER
VIP Referral Patient of the Month!
Firstly, I just want to say thank you. After sending out messages to our patients, we received so many responses, and it was so encouraging to see how many of you are ready to get back to physical therapy and continue the great progress you’ve made. As an essential business, we have been working hard to provide physical therapy to those who need it. For our patients, it’s a matter of being able to move and function properly — to go about their daily lives — without experiencing pain and difficulty. Everyone deserves to move and feel good, and we are grateful to help people do just that. We know we’re not the only ones who’ve been hard at work through all of this. Hospital staff have been on the front lines of this thing. Thank you to all of you for what you are doing. Grocery store workers, who never expected to be on the front lines of a health crisis, have found themselves showing up to provide essential services to our community. To all of you who work these crucial jobs, thank you. A while back, I got a phone call from a local organization. They were buying lunch for all the essential workers in the area and wanted to buy lunch for our team. It took me by surprise, and after saying how nice it was, I tried to turn the offer down. “Really, you don’t need to,” I told them. But they insisted, saying, “We want to do this for you.” It was one of those acts of kindness that catches you by surprise in the best way. I agreed to let them buy us lunch on one condition: the food had to be from a local restaurant. They were on board, and it felt good knowing we could pay forward some of the kindness this organization was showing us by supporting another local business in the process.
STEVE O’TOOLE
The best compliment we can receive is to have one of our patients refer a friend or family member to our practice. If you refer someone and we are able to take them as a patient, both you and the person who was referred will be entered to Win a $25 gift card! It’s just our way of saying
We can all come out of this stronger if we support one another.
We’ve seen some incredible progress from patients who’ve been doing physical therapy through this time. One young woman is a very high-level soccer player who needed surgery prior to all of this starting. Post-surgery, she and her family trusted us to do the right thing for her and deliver the same excellence in PT that we have come to be known for, all while following safety precautions to keep our patients and staff safe and healthy. To all of our patients who’ve been continuing with their home exercises, keep going! You are doing awesome. Consistency is key to healing, and by continuing with your program, you are building the muscles, and the habits, to get back to living your best life. Know that we are here for you. If you have any questions about accessing physical therapy, please reach out. We love hearing from you.
Thank You!

Make Your Game Nights Extra Special With a Family Entertainment Room
“I’ve had family members and clients who have raved about Cornerstone, and they were right on the money. What a wonderful, dynamic staff in so many ways. Concern, communication, helpfulness, and cleanliness are a few words that come to mind. Thank you, Cornerstone, for all you did for me.”
Families around the world are finding new ways to spend time with each other, and their homes are changing accordingly. Whether your family members are video gamers, movie enthusiasts, or board game fans, everyone can benefit from having a dedicated entertainment room. Here are some tips for putting one together. USE YOUR SPACE WISELY. Consider the advantages and challenges of your available space. You don’t want small spaces to feel cramped, and you don’t want large spaces to feel empty. If your room is small, then design the space to serve multiple purposes, like installing a bar with a TV on the opposite wall. If your room is large, then why not have two or more TVs to let visitors play multiple games or watch different shows? A projector can also be used to maximize a room’s space. It allows you and your guests to utilize an entire wall without requiring much physical space. SET UP SURROUND SOUND. Whether you’re using your entertainment room for movies, music, video games, or all of the above, investing in high-quality speakers will pay off instantly. You can set them up around the room for clearer, more immersive sound for movies and games, and by spacing out each speaker, you can eliminate cord clutter and tangle. SOUNDPROOF YOUR SPACE. Trying to impress your guests with great sound doesn’t mean that your entire neighborhood has to hear what you’re watching! Soundproofing not only helps shield your neighbors from action game explosions and booming movie scores, but it also improves the sound quality in the room. Thick curtains and carpets, wall-mounted foam panels, or freestanding acoustic panels work for basic soundproofing, but if you plan to utilize your space every day and night, then consider hiring a contractor to help estimate materials and cost for a more sophisticated soundproof space. HAVE GREAT LIGHTING. There’s nothing more inviting than a well-lit space, and this also applies to your entertainment room. Whether you’re playing a board game or putting together puzzles with the whole family, mood lighting can make the experience feel even more cozy and special. Try experimenting with different, stylish lamps or overhead fixtures to light up your space.

“When I began physical therapy, I had a sharp stabbing pain in my hip and leg whenever I sneezed or coughed. Also, when bending over to tie my shoe, the pain was intense. I have significantly improved now thanks to the exercises and manual treatment Tyler performed at each treatment session.” –Christina M.

MOTION + CONSISTENCY The Key to Recovery
When you experience pain or suffer from an injury, it might seem like common sense to stop moving altogether and rest to get better. And while you’ll likely want to put a pause on your exercise program for a while, you won’t get better simply by not moving. In most cases, slow, consistent movement may actually be key to your recovery. Studies have found that bed rest usually isn’t the best prescription for injuries and pain, like those related to back pain. Musculoskeletal expert Dr. Chris Maher explains, “What we’ve learned is that most tissues recover more quickly from injury or trauma if they’re gently loaded [aka used].” Maher’s advice is backed up by other experts. Motion combined with consistency is the key to healing injuries and feeling better. When we see patients once but don’t see them again for a while, we get concerned. Especially in the early phases of treatment, professional intervention is so important to getting better. Consistency is key. KEEP UP WITH YOUR PT Patients who are consistent with their PT early on see better results, and those who stick with their program are able to fully heal and recover. This is true for coming in to meet with your PT as well as continuing your exercises at home. Consistent movement as directed by your PT will help you build the muscles to safely get back to your favorite activities pain- and injury-free. Being consistent with your program will help you build the habits to take you through your recovery and beyond.
As the weather gets nicer, it can be especially tempting to skip out on PT to spend more time outside. But with the warmer weather and more active season, it’s more important than ever to stick with your PT plan. Only consistency will you get to a place where you can enjoy the activities you love. If you’re experiencing pain and rest isn’t helping, or if you’ve fallen behind on your PT program, we’re here for you. At Cornerstone Physical Therapy Health & Wellness Center, you’ll find caring, personalized service. Give us a call and get back on the road to recovery.

3 Travel Destinations Where Photos Are a No-Go
No Photos Allowed
3 TRAVEL HOT SPOTS WHERE PHOTOGRAPHY IS FORBIDDEN
What is traveling without taking photos? With the excellent cameras on our smartphones and endless platforms to share our snapshots on, we’re taking more pictures than ever. But did you know there are certain destinations where visitors are not allowed to take photos? Here are three places where you must put the camera away. THE EIFFEL TOWER Right now, you’re probably thinking about all the pictures of the Eiffel Tower you’ve seen or even taken yourself. After all, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most popular tourist spots in the world, but under French law, taking a photo of the Eiffel Tower at night — and then distributing that photo — is illegal. That includes posting the picture to social media. French officials can send you a cease-and-desist order if they find your night photo because the tower’s nighttime light display is copyrighted. It was installed by French artist Pierre Bideau who owns the rights to the display. Do French officials search the web for your vacation photos? No, but they can take action if it’s brought to their attention. THE SISTINE CHAPEL While the Sistine Chapel may be home to incredible works of art originally painted by Michelangelo, it is also a place of worship, and the Vatican considers it disrespectful to photograph such a holy place.
However, there’s more to the story. In 1980, Japan’s Nippon Television Network Corporation bought exclusive rights to all photos and videos of the interior of the chapel because they funded the renovation of the chapel. While the Japanese corporation no longer holds these rights, the Vatican maintains the “no photos” rule. ULURU Also known as Ayers Rock, Uluru is one of the largest sandstone rock formations in the world. Located in the middle of Australia, Uluru is highly regarded by the Anangu Aboriginal people who call the region home. Photography around parts of the rock is forbidden out of respect for the Anangu people’s beliefs, specifically Tjukurpa , or the time when the world was created. Certain areas around Uluru are used for gender-specific rituals, and as a result, members of the opposite sex must never see these locales, including in photos. The Anangu say the restriction of photography ensures they adhere to their beliefs and never lay eyes on these sacred spots, even accidentally through a photograph.
