Welcome to our 48th annual bull sale. We first bought Red Angus females from Beckton Stock Farm in 1961. Ever since then, we have grown to become a very consistent member in the Red Angus and Quarter Horse industries. Over the years, we have met many different people who have become our lifelong friends in both of our industries and are still making many more friends today. Every year, we always try to improve our cattle to bring you consistency, soundness, and honesty through our bulls. This is our main goal so that our customers are happy. Because of this main goal, we would like to thank our repeat customers that have helped us through our ups and downs over the years. At Broken Heart Ranch, we have come up with a philosophy. We have always believed that no bull or heifer will ever be the “one”. This is a belief of ours because there is always room for improvement. Some of the greatest cattle in the history of the Red Angus breed will get outdone by someone else at some point in time, whether it is in the future or in the past. Every year, we hope to have the bulls in our sale outperform the bulls the year before. This is being done by adding some new genetics through elite females and high-quality herd bulls. We are also hoping to add several new customers that will be lifelong friends. Don’t be afraid to visit us anytime to check out our bulls. We have many years of experience that will assist you in making your herd better. As many people know, we are mainly concerned about “staying consistent” and selecting cattle for a balanced set of traits. The main thing we focus on are females that are feminine and have highly maternal traits, such as having outstanding feet and leg structure, along with level udders. Com- bined with cattle that are deep sided, long bodied, and having plenty of muscle makes the perfect set of calves. This set of bulls were weaned in the first part of October. Below zero-temperatures and negative-windchills have made these bulls tough. They have also pulled out of these cold spells well and look great. We will have them carcass ultrasound evaluated late February and will have Oahe Vet palpate and scrotal measure all the bulls. That information will be available through a supplement sheet on sale day or through our website at www.pedersonredangus.com. Due to their younger age, we will not be semen testing the bulls before the sale. However, do stand behind them when the time comes prior to breeding. This year, all the bulls are parent verified with GGP testing for enhanced EPDs. We would like to thank everyone for coming to our sale and considering our genetics into your program. Sale Information
BREEDING GUARANTEE: We guarantee all bulls to be breeders although we recommend you have the bull’s semen tested a couple of weeks before turn out time. If after two tests a bull is found to be a non-breeder, we will replace the bull or allow credit toward next year’s sale. This guarantee is void if there is evidence of improper management in caring for the animal, or the bull’s inability to breed is due to sickness or injury which was incurred after being sold. The bull shall be returned by the purchaser or other arrangements made with us. Scrotal mea- surements and ultra sound data on the bulls will be available on sale day. All bulls are born and raised on this ranch. SEMEN INTEREST: Broken Heart Ranch is retaining a 1/3 semen interest in all bulls and selling full possession, full salvage, plus 2/3 semen revenue. This means any semen sold on any of the bulls, Broken Heart will receive 1/3 the selling price per unit. We also reserve the right to collect semen on any of the bulls, for our own use. This semen will be col- lected at our expense and the buyer’s convenience. GENOMICS: All bulls have been DNA tested and have genomically-enhanced EPDs.
DELIVERY: It is our policy to assist in delivery to your ranch or to central loca- tions on major highways within 300 miles. Bulls picked up within three or four days will receive a $50 hauling refund. We will keep the bulls until April 1 at no charge but we will not be responsible for sickness or injury. However, we will keep you informed if anything turns up. We would like to start delivering bulls as soon as weather permits. We’re giving a 5% discount on 5 or more bulls to the same ranch and a 10% discount for 10 bulls to the same ranch. HEALTH: All cattle are on a complete vaccination program and are BQA Certified. Oahe Veterinary Clinic, (605) 845-3634, is our primary veterinarian and will also be available on sale day. None of the cattle have had creep feed. INSPECTION OF CATTLE: Cattle will be available for inspection at any time prior to the sale. LIABILITIES: All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. Hollywood has made his mark on the Red Angus Breed. He is the most expensive bull in the Red Angus Breed selling for $400,000 in 2023. When we got the opportunity to flush him with Berwald Bonne Bel 3115 (aka Swank), we were honored to get to breed to him with our newly purchased heifer. So far, he has not disappointed us. We purchased Centerfire from Pieper’s in their 2023 spring sale. He has been a great addition. Centerfire has been used in every aspect of our herd from the heifers to our cows, he does it all. Centerfire adds great calving ease and carcass values to his progeny. His calves are also very clean made and stylish. This past fall, we have purchased Centerfire’s mother at Pieper’s Annual Fall Production Sale and are very excited to welcome her to our Broken Heart Ranch family and are thankful to have her. Every year, Centerfire’s calves stick out like a sore thumb in both the bull and heifer pens. Guidance is a quiet, good-disposition bull that we purchased from Berwald Red Angus at their 2023 production sale. His calves have always been quiet with lots of growth. Believe has been a wonderful addition to our herd. He has added a lot of weaning weight to these calves. Prairie Factor has added a lot of calving ease in our herd. This has always been something that he has been appreciated at the ranch. Prairie Factor calves have had very good combinations of calving ease and growth. This bull has exceptional calving ease. He is also incredibly versatile along with a lot of style. His dam, 2101, has been flushed this past fall. With all her calves that have went through the system, there has been at least 60 calves. He is also a half sibling to one of the bulls in this sale. Quarterback L74 is another purchase from Nordlund Stock Farm in their 2024 Sale. He has high calving ease and travels very nicely. He is also very smooth made, clean fronted, and is a pure female maker. L74 has been a very nice edition to our herd, and we are very excited to see what he comes to. We bought Spud’s mother (aka Wedge) at the ND State Sale in 2022 as a bred heifer. This was the calf that she was expecting at the time. Wedge is just a pure sweetheart and makes everyone’s hearts melt. Just like his dam, Spud was a very quiet, well- behaved calf. He is very consistent in weaning, yearling, and average daily gain traits. Not to mention that his carcass data is off the charts. When sale time rolled around, Spud was a fan favorite, even though he wasn’t for sale. His progeny are limited because he has died in 2024 due to injury. George is a very even calf, with low calving ease numbers and high weaning and yearling weight numbers. He also had the looks to back up his numbers with having a very even topline and having a lot of muscle. At the time, everybody at the ranch thought that George was going to be our next great herd sire. However, our plans didn’t work out when George had a battle with foot rot and was limited in his first breeding season. This bull is an ultimate powerhouse. He is very straight topped and packed with muscle. Not only does this bull have this trait, but his calves also have inherited these traits. A lot of his calves are thick made, deep bodied, and sound moving.

Having some natural maternal traits that has created some excellent females in our herd. His calves consistently have the traits of moderate birth, higher growth, and amazing carcass traits. Complete daughters are wanted across the nation and have topped many different sales. In Loving Memory
Margaret Leona (Ehly) Stadel was born June 30, 1927, in Isabel, South Dakota to Sophia and John Ehly and was the third of their four girls. She grew up in rural Isabel and attended school in town. Margaret and Jake Stadel were married on December 29, 1943, and made a start of their new lives together south of Firesteel. Later they moved directly south of Isabel where they raised their five children, Leslie, Suzet, Marjorie, Jack and Mark. In 1991, Jake and Margeret, or Grandma Margaret as she was known to many people, moved to Mobridge, South Dakota, where she lived in her own home until May of 2024 when she moved into the Prairie Sunset Village. Margaret loved music and could play piano by ear. As a young girl, she started “playing piano” by tapping on the glass windows enjoy- ing the different sounds. She had a few lessons, but the songs just weren’t jazzy enough. After moving to Mobridge, Mary Ann Lowe took her under her wing and the two of them made beautiful music for the United Congregational Church. She blessed many with her tal- ent and as recently as three weeks ago, played for a funeral. She was active in the UCC Church where she took part in the Women’s Group and the choir as well as playing the organ and piano for worship. Margaret served as the substitute mail carrier for Jake when they lived in Isabel. After Jake passed away, she began to work at the café

at the Mobridge Livestock Market. She enjoyed visiting with the ranchers and often thanked and praised them for their hard work and for taking care of the animals that help feed us. She often baked pies and desserts for the Sale Barn Café. She truly loved and adored her Mobridge Livestock Market family. Margaret took joy and delight in family and friends. She had a big heart, warm smile, and a jolly nature, and always offered words of encouragement. Everyone that met Grandma Margaret was blessed to share a piece of her life and experiences.
