Job Description Job Purpose

To support, assist and deputise for the Head of Health and Safety in providing assurance to the Senior Leadership Team and Health and Safety Committee on the status of the University’s compliance with statutory, regulatory and best practice health and safety compliance. To support the Head of Health and Safety in providing strategic leadership of the safety function to ensure the University not only discharges its legal obligations in relation to Health and Safety but maintains a safety management system that is able to effectively control the risk associated with London Metropolitan University’s activities. To promote good practice and continuous improvement in the safety agenda, while maintaining a high standard advisory service covering all aspects of health and safety. To develop and implement processes and systems that enable the effective governance and management of Health and Safety throughout London Metropolitan University. Key Areas • Support and deputise for the Head of H&S in the management and development of the Health and Safety Team. • Maintain an effective Health and Safety auditing and inspection programme. • Support and assist in the development and implementation of a University Health and Safety strategy. • Maintain the University’s corporate policy and procedures. • Assist in and influence the development of key performance indicators in Health and Safety. • Contribute to developing and maintaining the Health and Safety website, databases and information. • Produce monthly statistics, accidents, ill-health data etc. • Take a shared problem solving approach to proactively provide advice, guidance and support on health and safety matters to school and departments.
