• To monitor compliance with legislation, the University’s policy and Health and Safety management system bring significant risks and non-compliance to the attention of the University’s senior team, Health and Safety Committee and other relevant Committees of the University. • To develop, maintain and review the corporate Health and Safety policy, safety management system and arrangements in consultation with managers and employee representatives and to ensure the policy and associated guidance and procedures are communicated effectively throughout the University. • To monitor and audit safety performance of Schools and Departments against legislation requirements, best practice and the University Health and Safety management systems. Accident Investigation and Prevention • To maintain a system for recording, reporting and investigating injuries, accidents, dangerous occurrences and near miss instances. • To receive and investigate reports of accidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and fire damage, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls. • Provide statistical summaries to the University’s Health and Safety Committee, drawing senior management’s attention to significant trends and occurrences. • To provide annual data for inclusion in the HESA sector statistics. • To act as the “Responsible Person” for reporting notifiable injuries and dangerous occurrences to the enforcing agencies. • To liaise with the Finance Department in respect of investigating claims for industrial injuries. Training • To assist in the development of an annual Health and Safety training programme in conjunction with CPED, while maintain a training matrix, and ensuring induction training and individual training needs are undertaken. • To monitor health and safety e-leaning packages reporting on poor uptake of University mandatory learning packages. • To organise the development of and delivery of specialist training in conjunction with CPED.
