Louisville Operations Manager Began As Part-Time Dock Associate ‘OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN AND GROW’ For more than 25 years, JIMMY HOSKINS JIMMY HOSKINS has seen our culture up close and personal. And that includes plenty of opportunities to experience career growth. It began when Jimmy came to Averitt in 1996 as a part-time dock associate in Louisville. After two years Jimmy went full time in Lexington, and he was promoted to outbound frontline leader in 2000. Jimmy made the move back to Louisville in 2003 to become an inbound frontline leader; he was also a dispatch leader for a few years before being promoted to his current role in 2012. “I would attribute that growth to the Averitt culture,” Jimmy explains. “I’ve had opportunities to learn and grow from all my leaders. (Lexington Service Center Director) CRAIG TAYLOR was a huge part of that, and of course (Region 2 Vice President) MIKE MONIN and (Louisville Service Center Director) BRYAN CECIL. ” Jimmy adds that our focus on people makes a difference. “The people make it easy to stay here,” he says. “You blink, and it’s been 25 years for me full-time. That’s more than half my life. That’s unbelievable to me, and I didn’t even realize it. I just blinked, and here I am.” What advice does Jimmy have for associates who want to grow in their own careers? “The No. 1 key is always let it be known,” he says. “Let somebody know that you want to move forward. Also, you definitely need to be open to change. You have to be flexible. That’s the best way to grow, adapt and learn.” ‘AVERITT DOESN’T JUST TALK THE TALK’ GEORGE HARRISON came to Averitt about five years ago as a driver for our Gordon Paper Dedicated account in Virginia Beach, Va., and he was recently promoted to frontline leader there. Throughout his time with Averitt, George has been impressed with our team’s commitment and

consistency. “One of the things I love about Averitt is that it doesn’t just talk the talk,” explains George, who came here after more than 20 years as a marine surveyor. “The things Averitt told me when I came to orientation five years ago, I can’t point to anything that didn’t turn out to be true. The pay is competitive, and the health benefits are fantastic.” Prior to joining Averitt, George had a background in transportation, having served as a driver while he was in college. George is now filling the role formerly held by WILLIAM MAYNARD, who passed away late last year following a lengthy illness. George helped serve in William’s stead while he was battling illness, and he says William’s guidance helped him understand how to take that next step. George adds that because of our culture, career opportunities are available for anyone who wants to grow. “If you’re aggressive about keeping an eye out, meeting people and talking to people, you can find opportunities,” he says. GROWING IN THE BLUEGRASS STATE
New Distribution & Fulfillment Facility Opens In Louisville
The 324,000 square-foot, enclosed-space facility is strategically located near the Louisville International Airport and the local railyards, vastly expanding our ability to handle the flow of both domestic and international freight. “Louisville is one of the nation’s busiest distribution hubs, and its location is ideal for distribution and fulfillment services,” says ED SMITH of our Distribution & Fulfillment leadership. “With this new location, we can reach 95% of the U.S. population by air within four hours and 65% within a day’s drive.” The increase in freight traveling through our network will streamline customers’ supply chains throughout the Central and Southeast United States, putting The Power of One on full display. “Every service we offer will be utilized at this new location,” says We recently opened a new Distribution & Fulfillment warehouse in Louisville, and it is poised to become one of the busiest hubs in our network. MIKE MONIN of our regional leadership. “From moving international freight to standard LTL, this facility will greatly increase speed to market and open up a ton of e-commerce solutions for our customers. The opportunities are endless.” A significant portion of the new center will be dedicated to the bourbon and spirits industries. Customers in these industries will be able to store and distribute both finished and unfinished goods at the location, allowing for accelerated production and convenient transportation solutions. Our Distribution & Fulfillment services feed our other service units and help us build deeper relationships with customers. Because when they see our commitment to excellence, they’re more likely to take advantage of more service offerings and create more bills throughout our network. Increased bill count translates to more chances for our associates to refer People Like You and generate more opportunities for Profit Sharing! T m In addition to handling freight like our other facilities (Nashville Distribution & Fulfillment pictured above), a significant portion of our new Louisville location will be dedicated to the bourbon and spirits industries.

Greensboro Team Experiencing Success With Hub-And-Spoke ‘AVERITT’S GOT THE PERFECT MODEL’ Our enhanced “hub-and-spoke” approach to Truckload continues to expand throughout our network, allowing us to say yes to our customers Similar to our LTL city operation, “home daily” Truckload drivers pick up freight from a customer and bring it back to the service center. A “hub” driver more often while at the same time providing drivers with the opportunity to be home daily.
When Greensboro Truckload driver MAC WILLIS found out about our new hub-and-spoke approach, he quickly contacted his fleet manager, and he’s glad he made the move into this unique role.
Greensboro transportation sales specialist JEN MORRIS says the positive adjustments are all part of a team effort. “Drivers appreciate what we’re doing for them,” she says. “We tell customers, ‘We’re trying to get our drivers home every day.’
then moves the freight to a service center – just like shuttle drivers do for LTL freight – where it is then delivered to the customer by another home daily driver. Our Greensboro team has been working in the hub- and-spoke model for a little while, and the results have been outstanding.
That shows what our culture is and how we listen to our drivers. And one of their requests is to be home every day, and we’re trying to accommodate that. I think customers like to hear that.” Another positive of the hub-and-spoke model is that it allows our driving force to be a closer part of the team. “They have the opportunity to continue to do what
“Because we have drivers in the proximity of the service center, we’re able to run them over and get a truckload shipment,” explains KEITH MCDANIEL of our

they like to do, but have a true home domicile and be involved with the associate meetings and cookouts on a more regular basis,” says Greensboro Service Center Director BOBBY ADKINS. “They have the resources close by, and it’s person to person.” Bobby says the future is bright for our innovative Truckload operation.
Region 5 sales leadership. “That’s important for our customers, because they need to get the freight off their docks, and in a lot of cases we’re able to accommodate that.” A WIN-WIN FOR OUR TEAM In addition to being a positive for our customers, our drivers are also thankful for the unique arrangement. When hub-and-spoke came to Greensboro, Truckload driver MAC WILLIS wasted no time contacting fleet manager SHARON ELDRIDGE. “I immediately told Sharon that I wanted to do it,” recalls Mac, who has been with Averitt for close to nine years. “The main thing I like about it is that I’m guaranteed to be home on Fridays. I really, really like a two-day weekend. It’s great. I overall like this job, and I like driving a truck.”
“It’s going to continue to grow, and it's great for recruiting People Like You,” he explains. “Associates can recruit their friends and say, ‘Averitt’s got the perfect model. We get to go out and drive a truck and get 400-500 miles a day, but we’re home nightly or at least 2-3 nights a week.’ That’s going to benefit us all the way around and build on our culture. That’s who we are. We’re all about people.” T m

Canada Services Bring More Bills Into Our System
A unique way we’re currently building density is through our Canada services. Our strong partnerships with Canadian transportation providers Polaris and Rosenau enable us to deliver outstanding service to customers to and from points throughout Canada. We’re uniquely positioned to deliver consistent linehaul services thanks to our gateway distribution hubs in Chicago, Cincinnati and Winchester. And because of our ability to deliver Canada services, it opens the door for more opportunities for a wide array of solutions, from LTL to Truckload, expedited to intermodal, and Distribution & Fulfillment. BRINGING SOLUTIONS TO THE TABLE One Canada services success story is our partnership with Fortessa Tableware Solutions (FTS), a Virginia-based supplier of flatware, dinnerware and glassware for restaurants, hotels and homes. Each day, our drivers pick up shipments from the company’s distribution center in Winchester, VA. The freight is brought back to our service center, where it’s picked up by Polaris drivers, who make the overnight trip to Toronto. “Fortessa loves the fact that we can receive their goods on Monday by 5 Building density is one of the most important keys to our future success, because it ensures we have a strong base of customers and bill count throughout our network.

The service that Fortessa receives is not always standard pickup and delivery, with some shipments being delivered to resorts and restaurants that require an extra touch. Fortunately, our Canadian partner is able to go the extra mile by providing specialized white glove delivery. “Our relationship with Polaris and other Canadian carriers gives us flexibility to offer customized solutions to our customers,” says GARY SMITH of our regional leadership. “It shows that The Power of One approach is not confined by borders.” Because of our teamwork with Polaris and Fortessa, we’ve been able to develop and execute a seamless cross-border solution that is a win-win situation for us all. We look forward to continuing to develop innovative and creative solutions that help us build density and secure our future together. T m

PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE
Rise In E-Commerce Makes Final Mile Services An Important Solution A key part of our culture is securing a brighter future, and one way we’re doing that is by offering Final Mile services to meet the ever- increasing demand of e-commerce. Through our Final Mile services, we use strategic partners to maneuver residential areas for customer deliveries. We currently offer this service in 45 markets, and it’s helping us open the door for more opportunities with customers who may not have otherwise partnered with Averitt, as well as strengthening our relationship with current customers who need this service. HELPING OUR DRIVERS DO WHAT THEY DO BEST In addition to helping us increase bill count throughout our network, another reason we offer Final Mile services is to allow our drivers to focus on what they do best, saving time and resources for our team. “We want the most driver-friendly freight as possible for our driving force,” says Director of Final Mile Services PETE ZIEGLER. “That’s why we have strategic partners who do this. They specialize in these types of deliveries, and they have the equipment necessary for the job.”

THE POWER OF ONE According to Vice President of Operations LARRY MASON, our Distribution & Fulfillment services can play an important role in building our Final Mile bill count even more. Like all of our successes, it’s a team effort that shows The Power of One. “There’s a direct link to between Distribution & Fulfillment and Final Mile,” Larry explains. “We can have large customers ship in volumes into our warehouses, and our warehouses can actually do the distribution in the local markets via our Final Mile providers.” Pete adds, “This is an additional way to build bill count and revenue by providing another service offering to our customers.” To learn more about our Final Mile services, visit Averitt.com/FinalMile. AN EYE TOWARD THE FUTURE Pete says Final Mile helps us stay prepared for the future.
“Manufacturers and/or shippers who aren’t delving into the e-commerce or Final Mile world are going to have a really difficult time in the next 10 years,” Pete explains. “Because there’s a certain percentage of the business that isn’t there today, but it will be in the next 5-10 years. Macon City Driver Continues Family Tradition Of Service, Safe Driving MARCUS MCLEROY is a city driver in Macon who is carrying on a family tradition of service and safe driving with our team, following in the footsteps of his father, the late JOE MCLEROY JOE MCLEROY. “Joe Mac,” as he was known by his teammates and identified by the patch on his “classic” blue-striped uniform shirt, joined our team in 1988 when our Macon service center first opened its doors. As Macon’s first shuttle driver, he retired just one year shy of his 20-year anniversary with 18 years of safe driving under his belt. Just a couple of years into his tenure, Joe referred his son, Marcus, to Averitt. Marcus began his career at our Atlanta East service center as a dock associate before earning his CDL and becoming a city driver in 1993. “Dad enjoyed Averitt from the start,” Marcus says. “Because of his positive experience, he referred me, and I plan to be here until I retire like he did. Averitt has been so good to my family, and being part of this team feels like an extension of family.” Despite being at different service centers, the two often saw each other when Joe’s run would send him to Atlanta East. Their paths crossed again FOLLOWING IN his FATHER’S FOOTSTEPS Driver Uses Red Thinkin’ Rewards Points To Stay Fit DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING Little Rock city driver MIKE GUISE has always been mindful about his physical fitness, and while recently browsing the Red Thinkin’ Rewards catalog, Mike found the perfect item to purchase with his points – a new home gym.
only a few years later – this time in print – when the duo earned safe driving milestones in the same month. Joe was recognized for 10 years of safe driving on the same safety poster that also featured Marcus for his five-year safety award. “I still have that poster and it is framed,” Marcus says. “It was an honor to be recognized alongside him. He was a great role model, and he is the reason why I’ve enjoyed going to work every day for nearly three decades.” Marcus, like his father, now drives in Macon. He transferred domiciles to return home and be closer to family in 2012. He recently earned his 27-year safe driving award and will celebrate his 30-year anniversary with our team in July. Marcus’s story is an excellent example of why referring People Like You is so vital to our future. “I’ve always tried to keep up with my fitness, so getting a home gym was a no-brainer,” Mike says. Mike says the Marcy machine – which is just one of the many pieces of workout equipment that can be found in our rewards catalog – features everything he needs to stay in shape without needing to leave his house. “It’s a multi-facet machine with a lot of different stations that will help me further my exercise routine,” Mike continues. “I was glad to see something like this was available through Red Thinkin’ Rewards.” While shopping for his home gym, Mike says he noticed how easy the rewards website was to navigate,
enjoyed browsing the numerous available items and is grateful for the program. “I think Red Thinkin’ Rewards is a great benefit for associates,” Mike says. “It’s a great motivator and pushes you to achieve your goals.
