Crime Prevention Strategies Commanders in each patrol division take preventative steps to address any increase in crime such as Aggravated Assaults and BMVs. All patrol divisions have strategic operating funds (SOF) to be used to address crime in their areas. Division Commanders work with the Real Time Crime Center, Crime Analysts, and Neigh- borhood Police Officers to identify emerging trends and hot spot areas. Additionally, Division Commanders keep track of previous crime trends and put officers in those locations to prevent crime from occurring. SOF funds are a valuable resource that are used to put additional officers in the hot spot areas to act as a deterrent and/or provides the opportunity to make a quick arrest. Lastly, another resource that Division Commanders have is a Special Response Team. This is a group of officers used to address violent and property crimes within the division and are not subject to 911 calls for service. They work at the direction of the Commander and change and/or modify their schedule to address crime issues. Beyond the various resources the Divisional Commanders use to address crime trends, there is constant collaboration with various units within the department including Gang, Narcotics, Vice, Homicide, Robbery, and Family Violence in an effort to reduce or eliminate crime.
