Golf Preemergence Recommendations Tropical Zone 2019-2020
Bayer offers two premium preemergence herbicides for use in warm-season turf. Ronstar ® has been a standard for weed control since its introduction in 1977. Specticle ® is the newer solution, offering a mode of action and a different class of chemistry to deliver outstanding control of many weeds. Both Ronstar and Specticle have unique features and benefits we’ve outlined below. Use these to find the product that best fits your needs.
Specticle ® FLO Technical Strengths // Broad-spectrum control // Long residual - up to six months // Low amount of ai/A, 0.014 to 0.048 lbs // Non-staining // Great complement to Ronstar // Mixable with many postemergence herbicides Application BMPs // Do not apply to saturated soils // Delay application when major rain events are predicted soon after application // Avoid applications to cool-season turfgrasses
Ronstar ® Technical Strengths // Controls weeds via shoot uptake in the presence of sunlight (Protox inhibitor) // No effect on turf root system // Choose between Ronstar G, Ronstar FLO and Ronstar + Fertilizer // Non-staining // Controls weeds in the presence of biotic and abiotic stresses; insects, diseases, drought, traffic and more Application BMPs Ronstar FLO // Apply only to dormant bermudagrass and zoysiagrass turf // Do not apply close to spring green-up Ronstar + Fertilizer // Maximum number of particles/sq. ft. is important to help maximize control // Apply at a minimum spread rate of 200 lbs/A with SGN 125-150 fertilizers (preferred), 250 lbs/A or more with larger granule size particles
