WIS Yearbook 2024

Year 9

Reflecting on the academic year so far, I am proud of Year 9’s achievements. It has been an extremely busy year and I am thrilled for the children in my care that they have been presented with so many opportunities. During Term 1, Parents attended the Student Led Conference Day which permitted students to articulate their strengths and areas for improvements. This event also further strengthened the rapport between school, parents and students. This event highlighted the importance of student agency as our children continue to mature and progress in their academic journey. During Term 2, Parents’ and GCSE Options evenings facilitated crucial dialogues between educators and families, ensuring students received tailored support. Students also engaged in GCSE Taster Lessons which enabled them to further inform and consolidate their choices for next year. Also during Term 2, students celebrated International Day in February, a celebration of diversity and cultural understanding. Many of our students have participated in other programmes such as the Dare To Lead and Study Buddy Programme. With these milestones, Year 9 continues to thrive academically and socially, thanks to the collective efforts of our dedicated students, supportive parents, and committed staff. On a personal note, I have felt privileged in continuing my role as Head of Year 9, having nurtured and guided the students this year and last year. Liam Thomas Hawksworth Head of Year 9
