The academic year of 2023/2024 saw the Year 12 students embark on their Sixth Form journey. During induction week at the end of August students wrote letters to themselves that will be returned to them at graduation in Year 13. As the weather cooled down, we took the opportunity to go outside of school. The Year 12’s went to Aventura to take part in team building activities and flying through the trees on the ziplines. The students had a fantastic day and allowed new friendships to evolve as well as discussing the importance of managing their health and wellbeing alongside their academics. Towards the end of Term 1 students had settled into their subject choices and had an increased awareness of the requirements of the core elements of their chosen pathway. During Tutor Time, students have worked hard on time management, embedding good practice, wellbeing activities - whether that be mindful colouring or origami. We had tutor groups enjoying World Book Day by creating a literacy rap for younger years, encouraging them to read more. During Term 2, we have focused hard on study plans, CAS, Service Learning and preparing for the forthcoming mocks in term 3. We have had many different assemblies, one that stands out for the students was where Year 13 students gave them their advice and guidance on the “Dos and Don’ts” when preparing for mocks and the rest of their Sixth Form journey. Ms. Rafiq our University Counsellor has spoken to the students on many occasions and has had
individual meetings with the students to help them prepare for their university choices and how to use the Unifrog platform to seek out suitable courses and Universities, ensuring that the students are on track to achieve the required grades and looking ahead to life after WIS. Mock exams will be finished early June and the Year 12’s will then work on their Group 4 Projects, showcasing great teamwork and innovation. Careers Day took place in June, with external speakers discussing their fields of expertise, showcasing Universities and opportunities and also a chance for tutors to sit with the students to discuss their personal statements in advance of applying to university. As the year comes to a close, we are looking forward to a trip to Ski Dubai, this will allow the Year 12 students some time away from school and school work. It will also provide an important opportunity for time with their friends to build more memories before they head off on summer vacations and any internships or summer programmes that they are embarking upon. We look forward to welcoming the students back into Year 13 and continuing to support and guide the students into achieving their best grades alongside managing their wellbeing. We hope to make even more memories to last a lifetime in Year 13. Ruth Dunn Head of Year 12
