Author Of “Improve Your Balance, Live Your Life!” DR. SARA S. MORRISON NEWSLETTER

I have been a physical therapist in Harnett County since 2002. I receivedmy Bachelor of PhysicalTherapy degree from the University at Buffalo of New York State and Doctor of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University. In 2008 I opened Total Body Therapy & Wellness in Lillington, North Carolina. The goal of this was to provide exceptional “Big City Care” in a small-town community. In 2017 I had a new mission. I wanted to give back to the place has given me and my family unending love and support since my arrival to my new home in North Carolina. I wanted tomake the people of Harnett County healthy and teach them they did not have to live in pain. My 96 mission was to make a “Happier, Healthier Harnett”. In doing this I wrote my first book Heal Your Body, Live Your Life! In this book, I teach you how to heal your lower back pain, and get it to go away for good, WITHOUT medicine, shots or surgery. I had such a great response to that book that the community demanded a second book! I thought therewas no better topic than to write about my passion, my therapeutic love... Balance! Withmy second book I wanted to teach the Senior Citizen community to recognize the signs of poor balance and help them seek out treatment BEFORE a fall occurs. Sure, physical therapy can help you after a fall... but wouldn’t it be nice to avoid that fall in the first place?? With my second book, I bring my community Improve Your Balance, Live Your Life! I have been invited to speak on health and wellness issues in many areas of our community. In 2010 I received “Lillington Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year” Award. I also served on Lillington Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors twice and was President of Lillington Chamber of Commerce in 2013. To give back to my profession, I mentor future physical therapists and other healthcare providers from many local colleges including Campbell University, University of North Carolina, Methodist University, WakeTechnical College,

Fayetteville Technical College and Western Carolina University. I also performed interviews at Campbell University’s Doctor of PhysicalTherapy School to select incoming students. My passion is to improve the quality of life for those in my community and to bring quality health care to rural settings. When I am not working, I love to spend as much time as possible with my family! I love them so much I put their picture above! My husband Erik, son Blake and dogs Bella and Ellie (the dogs weren’t invited to that wedding). I also enjoy running, reading, baking, sewing, watching football and going to the beach. Throughout my career, I have specialized in many areas of health and wellness and have developed my own custom programs to treat many afflictions including: Lower Back Pain, Balance/ Fall Prevention, Lymphedema, Vertigo, Foot Pain, Pediatrics, TMJ and Headaches/Migraines. I have become certified in many aspects of Physical Therapy including: • Certified Dry Needling • Functional Movement Taping • Certified Decongestive Therapist • Certified Functional Capacity Evaluator • Certified Fitter of Lymphedema Garments • Certified Neuro-Developmental Therapist of Children and Babies • Neuro-Anatomy of Developmental Pathologies

6 FOOD CHOICES TO HELP EASE ARTHRITIS PAIN Who says you have to compromise when suffering from arthritis!

1. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage. These veggies are part of the cruciferous family, and they are full of a compound called sulforaphane, which helps slow cartilage damage in joints due to osteoarthritis. Try adding broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, kale or cauliflower to your salad or stir-fry. 2. Fatty fish. Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, trout and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help fight inflammation. Try adding fish to your diet a couple of times a week. If you’re not a big fan of fish, ask your doctor about taking an omega-3 supplement. 3. Garlic. Garlic is a member of the allium family—which also includes onions and leeks. These items contain a compound called diallyl disulfide that may help with a number of diseases—including arthritis. 4. Tart cherries. Some people with arthritis have found relief from products made from tart cherries. The ingredient in cherries that helps with joint symptoms is the same one that gives this fruit its red color—anthocyanin. 5. Turmeric. One of the best-researched inflammation fighters isn’t a food at all, but a spice. Tumeric contains a compound called curcumin. The compound has been used for centuries in India to ward off inflammatory diseases. You’ll find this yellow spice in Indian cuisines—particularly curries. 6. Vitamin C. Antioxidants in vitamin C may slow the progression of OA. You can get vitamin C from strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, or cantaloupe. However, we warn you against taking supplements with much higher doses than 65 to 85 milligrams, because in large doses vitamin C can increase the risk of kidney stones. Still not seeing any improvement form your arthritis pain? Schedule an appointment with Total Body Therapy & Wellness today! We will help you get back to a pain-free and active lifestyle naturally!
