retain certain rights and privileges belonging to him. “What is the meaning of the phrase, ‘hallowed he thy name,’ fo u n d in th e Lord’s prayer?” A. Hallowed simply means “holy.” The name of God is His manifested excellence. The prayer is not intended to make God’s person holy, for He already is, but rather that men may recognize Him as such. Holy also means, “set apart.” Certainly the Lord is in a “category” all of His own. In this sense there will always be a dif ference even between redeemed hu manity and deity. “I can’t find one place in the Bible that says there are three persons in one, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Can you help me?” A. We suggest such verses as Mat thew 28:20. Also see the helpful notes on this from the Scofield Reference Bible. The phrase “baptizing them in the -name” gives the singular reference rather than “names.” These Three are constituted as One. In our finite minds, we cannot understand this. Yet no such creature has ever been able to comprehend that which is infinite. We believe that there is one God eternally manifested in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three are one, the same in substance, and equal in power and in glory. “Why did God make Israel suffer double for all of her sins as is suggested in Isaiah 10:2, ‘Speak ye comfortably to Jeru salem, and cry unto her, that her war fare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD’S hand double for all her sin s’ ” A. This question may come from a lack of understanding of the Hebrew idiom. It is not the mathematical for mula that one must pay twice his debt. The original meaning here is “to the Q . Santa Maria, California. “Does the Bible teach that to remain unmarried has more favor with God than for one to be married?” A. Remember the basic truth of Bible study, and that- is to look at a verse in its proper context. In I Corinthians 7:8 we read, “I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, I t is good for them if they abide even as I.” To say that Paul is exhorting men toward celibacy is foolish reason because God’s ultimate will is for the human race to continue in His providence. Hebrews 13:4 tells us that “Marriage is honourable in all.” Remember, the first one to preside at a wedding was God Himself. He brought Eve to Adam and what a wonderful match that was! Our Lord Jesus Christ graced the wedding of Cana. Again in I Corinthians 7 we find a key in verse 26, “I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.” This distress in Paul’s day was certain stringent circumstances. Be lievers were persecuted, harassed, and even martyred. Because of these cir cumstances which prevailed, it seemed best to him at that time. But the whole counsel of Scripture reveals that mar riage is God’s norm. There may be some occasions, such as on the mis sion fields, where one may be better able to serve if unmarried. 26
