• Increased adaption rate by farmers in Missouri of management practices that offer potential to improve long term reproductive efficiency of their herds and resulting profitability. • Expanded working relationships among farmers, regional livestock specialists and veterinarians that will enhance information exchange and improve management of cow herds across Missouri. • Improved heifer development programs through a Total Quality Management approach. • Increase marketing opportunities for and added value for Missouri-raised heifers. • Creation of reliable sources of quality replacement heifers in terms of genetics and management. • This program is unique in that it is first and foremost, an educational program targeted at improving pro - duction efficiency through increased use of existing technology, coupled with the marketing component. SHOW ME SELECT HIGHLIGHTS The Show Me Select Replacement Heifer Program is focused entirely on Missouri’s farmers and is dependent upon active participation from regional extension livestock specialists and local veterinarians, each of which are critical components of the agricultural sector of this state. The anticipated outcomes of this program include:
Sire Requirements: Eligible sires must have known ID, be registered by their respective national breed registry, and have complete EPD information. Sires will be evaluated for qualification in the program based on the EPD provided by their respective breed registry and not on EPD produced by progeny registration in any other breed or hybrid registry. Sires must meet calving ease EPD requirements. All Natural Service sires purchased after February 1, 2019, must have GE-EPDs. All sires used in conjunction with artificial insemination must have a minimum accuracy value of 0.6 on a BIF scale of zero to one for CED EPDs. Angus sires need to have a CED of equal to or greater than 7.0. Hereford sires need to have a CED of
equal to or greater than 6.8. Our sires that qualify carry the
logo.
