Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation Annual Report 2024/25

New Geriatric Medicine Clinic

New Geriatric Medicine Clinic On DGH Campus Thanks to the J & W Murphy Foundation, our newly-expanded campus is home to Dartmouth’s first Geriatric Medicine Clinic. Located on the main level of the former Scotia Surgery building, the clinic was designed as a dementia-friendly environment where healthcare professionals conduct comprehensive geriatric assessments, host movement disorders clinics, and work with patients and families to plan care and home supports.

PRIORITY SIX – EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT ENHANCEMENTS

Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Pilot DGH’s Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is the second-busiest in the province. We continue to see increased volumes and, like elsewhere in our region, patients often wait hours for care. Thanks to the J & W Murphy Foundation, DGH launched a pilot project to help ensure vulnerable elderly patients receive care faster. The Geriatric Nurse Practitioner Pilot Project helped improve care and reduce wait times for elderly patients. The successful project paved the way for NS Health to introduce Waiting Room Care Providers to Emergency Departments across the province, helping vulnerable patients everywhere.
