2. Making It All About You Just because you aren’t having a conversation in real time doesn’t mean your interactions in social media should be one- sided. If you’re going to form real relationships and identify others’ goals and needs, then you need to ask questions and look for ways you can help. Get to know your contacts both online and in person. Spend as much time listening as you do talking; this includes liking and commenting on others’ posts on a regular basis. And never approach someone with an opportunity based on how it will benefit you. 3. Focusing on Money, Melaleuca, or Getting Enrollments This is something you see representatives from MLM companies do frequently. They post pictures of their checks or that of a high-earner in their organization, along with a post that says something like, “You too can make $50,000 with Yum Shakes! Ask me how!” While seeing a check with a lot of zeroes behind the number can be very impressive, it’s not the kind of marketing that attracts lifelong customers or business builders. Nor does it reflect a company whose goal is to enhance lives. Rather than focusing on money, focus on what your extra income has allowed you to do. As I said earlier, sharing genuine, heartfelt stories is both appropriate and powerful. Just make sure the focus of these stories is how the quality of your life improved and not about a big check you received or getting people to sign up. You never want to reference income, push the company, or include a direct call to action. See the examples posted on Melaleuca’s Instagram feed for ideas on how to do this right. How to Get Started I’m a huge fan of the power of social media. It’s an awesome tool! And I know it can help you grow your business. The key is using it in the right way. Try starting small with just one or two product or lifestyle posts each week. Remember the three keys to a successful post. For additional help, review Melaleuca’s guidelines for building your business online at eu.melaleuca.com in the Download & Print center. There’s never been a better time to share Melaleuca, and social media is just one of the many tools that can help you enhance lives.

3 Pitfalls to Avoid 1. Being Disingenuous
Imagine an old friend from high school, someone you haven’t talked to in years, reaches out to you on Facebook. You’re excited to reconnect. You can see from their profile picture that your children are roughly the same age. Maybe they even live in a community not far from you. You remember all the good memories from high school and you think how fun it would be to get together for coffee and catch up. Now imagine that same friend, only minutes after you’ve accepted their friend request, includes you in a mass invite to her online nail party. How do you feel now? Are still you excited to catch up or are you starting to feel a little wary? Maybe you’re even questioning the motive behind that friend request. One of the worst mistakes you can make on social media is forgetting the social aspect. The whole point of sites like Facebook and Instagram is to interact and connect with those you care about. And we can all tell when someone isn’t genuinely interested in our life or needs. The same goes for joining group pages or events. The goal should be to meet other people with similar interests, not spamming the group with unsolicited advertising.
