COASTE | EDITOR’S WELCOME

About 75 Degrees. Around here, warm holiday wishes average

It’s time again. Time to whip out that all-too-oft- uttered holiday season phrase: “It’s that special time of year.”

We’ll also profile a highly talented Sanibel artist who first made his name by engraving 58,000 names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Special is one fine way to describe our “Take Five” subject, a man who’s been named “person of the year” (quite a number of years) for how he gives back to our communities. Then, we’ll wrap it all up in a special bow and enjoy a delightful dolphin and wildlife Captiva cruise. From all of us at COASTE, to all of you celebrating the holidays (or just life), we wish you a warm and happy season, and a healthy, prosperous and most awesome new year.

We wish you a warm and happy season, and a healthy, prosperous and most awesome new year.

And while I’ll give you that luminaries along walkways, twinkling- light-wrapped palms, fireworks booming and children caroling all make for a wonderful time of year, I’d also

argue back that what makes Southwest Florida special — any time of the year — is also found in our remarkable people and places.

And that’s the spirit in which we’ve crafted this issue.

You’ll read a story about a courageous couple who live the holiday spirit by their annual trek to Haiti, where they generously (and freely) give of their time and talents to help needing young children.
