Amendment BST WaH and WaH/MH V19 October 2025
1. AMENDMENT TO GWO BST V19 – LADDER USE IN WTG
Modules: BST V19 Working at Height Module, BST Working at Height & Manual Handling Combined Module
Subject: Use of reinforced ladder rungs
Effective date: 30 October 2025
2. RATIONALE Due to recent developments, the recommendations on the use of reinforced ladder rungs in WTGs have changed. As a result, instructors shall explain and demonstrate that reinforced ladder rungs are not automatically suitable as anchor points for fall protection or rescue equipment. Such rungs may only be used as anchor points when their sufficient strength is clearly identified, either in the turbine’s safety manual or by markings on the structure indicating where equipment can be attached. In all other cases, fall protection must be secured to the ladder stiles or to certified and structural anchor points. This guidance applies to several elements of the BST V19 WaH Module and the WaH/MH Module. An overview of the changes to the modules is provided below. This amendment ensures alignment with manufacturer requirements and industry guidelines, while clarifying for participants how and when reinforced ladder rungs may be used. It supports safe decision-making by emphasising that reinforced rungs must only be used when clearly identified as suitable.
