Safety training
Amendment BST WaH and WaH/MH V19 October 2025
e. checking for integrity and the absence of damage, corrosion, saltwater/chemical/lubricant/dirt exposure or contamination
f. checking for the absence of significant wear of the device
g. connectors operate, and lock as intended and cannot disconnect completely
h.
rope securing mechanism works properly
i.
observe product operating temperature range
Demonstrate how to rig the device onto a ladder stile and, where identified as suitable, onto reinforced ladder rungs. If the rungs are not suitable, slings must be connected around the stiles, positioned on one side and centrally on the ladder system, to ensure the moving parts of the device can operate freely
Explain and demonstrate the principles of lifting angle, angle factor and edge protection
Demonstrate how to rig the device in passive setup, and active setup with deflection or deviation applying a friction connector
Stress the generic approach in pre-use inspecting and using a rescue device focusing on similarities and differences in design, functionality, and operation between different products
Explain the potential task placed upon the participant, in their own organisation on course completion, requiring them to familiarise themselves with other safety equipment products
Create a learning activity such as simple quiz, questionnaire or ask the participants open ended questions about:
a. how to perform pre-use inspection of a rescue device product
b. how to rig the device onto a ladder stile and, where identified as suitable, onto reinforced ladder rungs. If the rungs are not suitable, slings must be connected around the stiles, positioned on one side and centrally on the ladder system, to ensure the moving parts of the device can operate freely
c. the principles of lifting angle, angle factor and edge protection
d. how to rig the device in passive setup, and active setup with deflection or deviation applying a friction connector
Note Alongside manufacturers requirements, internal organisational and site-specific safety guidelines on attaching fall arrest lanyards should always be followed
While adhering to legal regulations and standards, the training provider must continuously ensure that the training material is updated and aligned with industry guidelines from G+, specifically Working at Height in the Offshore Wind Industry
