Y ou can look at it two ways. One, that this is not the time to be thinking about awards, party frocks, dickie bows and gala dinners. And you’d be right. But there is also a train of thought that it’s exactly at times like these that we need to cling to some semblance of normality, to believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel and the electrical industry on the island of Ireland will emerge from the Coronavirus crisis with a renewed sense of purpose. It would be all too easy to just pull the plug on the 2020 Electrical Awards, to say it’s too much trouble. However, this year, of all years we should do all in our power to ensure we can celebrate people, products, places, and projects that have excelled. And that is why we have postponed (NOT CANCELLED) the Electrical Awards event until Autumn 2020. All updates will be published to our social media, so please keep an eye out for those. In the meantime, the deadline for entries has been extended, so there is more time to

submit your entries online and get involved with the awards. Ireland’s Electrician of the Year is just one of 17 separate categories up for grabs in the 2020 Electrical Awards. In addition to the aforementioned ‘brightest spark’, there are categories for Fire & Security Contractor, Specialist Contractor, Electrical Wholesaler, Lighting Project and Lighting Product, Electrical Product, Distributor/ Supplier of the Year, and more. To nominate please go to our website or email karenj@ kmpltd.co.uk for an entry form. I know there will be some who might think this is all a bit inappropriate. I mean, how can you be talking about nominating people and projects for awards when we’re in the middle of global pandemic. But we can’t just throw in the towel. It’s not in our nature. So let’s instead try to remain as positive as we can in such trying circumstances, and cling to the belief that this will end, and when it does we will once again get together to celebrate the achievements of the Irish electrical industry later this year.
