LTP INITIATIVE
THE ECS CHECK IS SET TO MAKE ITS MARK IN NORTHERN IRELAND…
Safety on site
A fter getting the green light from the Northern Ireland Government, ECS Check is now approved and active as a pilot that meets the Licence to Practise (LtP) requirements on government public sector construction contracts throughout the country. The LtP initiative was developed in order to improve Northern Irish electrical safety standards and prevent unqualified persons labelling themselves as electricians. In meeting the requirements laid out in the associated Procurement Guidance Note (PGN 01/16), the new ECS Check allows electrical contractors working in Northern Ireland to meet their LtP obligations free of charge. As well as allowing main contractors and clients to verify the ECS status of
on-site electrotechnical personnel, ECS Check’s online portal lets users produce electronic summaries for auditing and reporting. Free to access, the service shines a light on the entire supply chain workforce, instantly displaying details of qualified electricians, apprentices and other electrical workers employed across multiple projects. For greater flexibility, an ECS Check App is available and enables real-time on-site auditing. Using ECS Check in Northern Ireland is straightforward and hassle-free – the operator simply requests that the main
contractor uses ECS Check to comply with LtP requirements and if they are already using the Employer Portal then this function will be added to their account. In helping to promote a safer working environment, ECS Check plays an important role in continued efforts to establish the highest levels of on-site competency in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
