ANCC FOUNDATION DID YOU KNOW?
The “In Memoriam” section of the ANCC website highlights the lives of Members and staff who have recently passed. If you would like to send a submission to honor the memory of a loved one, please contact our Marketing Coordinator by clicking here. You may send a biography, along with photos as well to be added to this section. To read about the lives of those who have recently passed, click here. In Memoriam Army Navy Drive It is said that Army Navy Drive acquired its name in the mid-1930’s because it gave quick access from the military headquarters in the District to the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. It largely follows the track of the Old Georgetown Road which ran from Alexandria to the ferry across the Potomac from what is now Rosslyn to Georgetown. George Washington (and Thomas Jefferson most likely) often traveled the route to and from the Federal City. To learn more about Army Navy Drive, click here.

Golf Course Reminders As this golf season gets started our professional golf staff would like to give you a few friendly reminders we can all do to take care of our golf courses: 1) The no mow areas on the golf courses are by design. Some are marked as penalty areas and should be played as penalty areas according to the Rules of Golf. If a no mow area is not marked as a penalty area, then any ball that enters an unmarked no mow area and is not found is a Lost Ball. While playing your round, if you stroke a ball into the no mow areas, please play a Provisional Ball to help with the pace of play. 2) Though the grass in the no mow areas is shorter during the spring, it is not intended for golf cart traffic. You may enter no mow areas in search of a ball, but please DO NOT drive golf carts into these areas. 3) Please observe the golf cart rules for the day. Every effort will be made to maintain the 90º cart rule as often as possible. However, when carts are restricted to paths, please keep all wheels on the paths. 4) At ARL, when taking a divot please fill the scar with sand. There is no need to replace the divot as it will die. The Ber- muda grass will fill-in within a few days. 5) At FFX, if the divot is intact with soil attached, please replace it. If the divot has shattered, please fill the scar with sand. 6) Please be sure to repair your ball marks on the green and a couple others at the same time. A properly repaired ball mark will keep our greens looking spectacular all season.
Stroke Play Championship Registration is now open for the 2024 Stableford Tournament. The event is scheduled for Saturday, 18 May, at ARL. The tournament includes a Men’s and Women’s Division and will be flighted accordingly. For complete information and to enter, click here. your digital profile on your first login to your GHIN number. If you have any trouble with the set-up, please contact Cody Pestun, Director of Administration & Play at cody.pestun@ancc.org. For additional handicap information, requirements for maintaining a handicap at ANCC and the handicap request form, click here. As the 2024 golf season is underway, the Handicap Committee reminds all players that to maintain the integrity of our handicap system, they should post every round played, except when playing alone. Scores should be posted for any format, even when you pick up without holing out or when you skip holes. This includes playing less than a full 9 or 18 holes. If a player does not hole out, they should assign themselves the score for that hole that they would have most likely have achieved, or, if they skip a hole, their net double bogey score for that hole. Guidelines that detail how to post rounds are posted in the golf section of the website. We also remind players that the Handicap Committee monitors the handicap system and has imposed handicap penalties when players fail to post regular play and/or competition scores. Also, if you haven’t already done so, all players are required by the USGA to create a digital profile. If you have not posted a score since 2000 you will be prompted to set-up
CWGO: Career Women’s Golf Organization
Save the date for the Yellow Ribbon Classic
The CWGO held a wonderful Spring Kickoff Lunch in April during which members heard about the exciting events planned for this season. That was followed by a friendly Nine-Hole Scramble in chilly but playable conditions, which was won by Emily Graves Odria, Ann Repczynski, Sara Samford and Claudia Cavanaugh, and drinks in Stars and Stripes. Our next event is our Charity tournament on 1 8 May in Fairfax. This event is the CWGO’s annual charity fundraiser in which we raise funds to support those fighting breast cancer at Walter Reed Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital by providing bags of comfort to women who are beginning treatment. Please click here for sign up and details about the format of the event. Our weekday play days at Arlington (Wednesday) and Fairfax (Thursday) are underway! Please click here to sign up. If you are considering membership and have any questions, please contact cwgo.membership@gmail.com. Hope to see you out there!
As part of our Centennial Celebration, Army Navy Country Club is reaching out beyond our own fairways to renew our commitment to the annual Yellow Ribbon Fund Golf Classic scheduled for 28 October 2024, at the Arlington course. Whether competing, being a sponsor or volunteer, or joining us to celebrate the day’s achievements at a post-event reception, member involvement will be vital. Over the past 16 years, we’ve helped to raise more than $2.7 million, which has provided housing and transportation to those who bravely serve our nation undergoing medical treatment. Don’t miss this opportunity to forge new connections, honor our military families, and be part of a tradition of generosity at the heart of the Army Navy. Information on how to take part will be announced in the coming weeks. Until then, save the date, commit to the cause, and get ready to be part of history.
