In Memoriam Army Navy Drive It is said that Army Navy Drive acquired its name in the mid-1930’s because it gave quick access from the military headquarters in the District to the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. It largely follows the track of the Old Georgetown Road which ran from Alexandria to the ferry across the Potomac from what is now Rosslyn to Georgetown. George Washington (and Thomas Jefferson most likely) often traveled the route to and from the Federal City. To learn more about Army Navy Drive, click here.
