Perspective SPRING 2024

JW: Our mother is a tremendous help; she’s an intellectual giant and her dry sense of humor makes the work fun. I enjoy working closely with my cousin, Bob, as he has a fantastic eye for quality. Additionally, we will remain committed to research and scholarship and navigate as the markets evolve. We’ll maintain our reputation of being trustworthy and dependable and will continue to deliver excellence and results to our customers.

contemporary art, Asian and African American art, mid-century modern furniture and fine estate jewelry. Our history and presence allow us to serve the local community while focusing on being a truly international auction house. We can help young collectors grow. The items our grandfather sold are simply not available to collectors anymore – they are in museums and family collections. If you look at a DuMouchelles catalog from the 1970s, many of those items are currently housed in museums. How is the current generation of leadership working to continue the DuMouchelles tradition of excellence? KWB: In our return to DuMouchelles, Joe and I brought an outside perspective to the family business while retaining the many aspects that have made the business successful over three generations. We are super fortunate to have my mom, uncle and cousin’s knowledge and the relationships they have from decades of serving buyers and sellers. In the next 10 years, we will continue to invest in our team and our technology, and grow our global customer base while honoring and embracing Detroit and our history.
