ALUMNI ATHLETES CELEBRATED AT 2023 ALUMNI ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME In a ceremony filled with joy, sentiment, and humor, we had the privilege of inducting five exceptional individuals and athletes into our Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame: Mags Dillon ‘02, Kevin Espy ‘98, Abby Tompkins Johannson ‘97, Bruce Barit ‘68 GPUS, and Tom Gage ‘66 GPUS. Bruce Barit ‘68 GPUS said his love of sports started early, and his true passion for sports was enhanced by wonderful GPUS mentors Coach Art Getz Sr., Art Getz Jr. ‘67 GPUS , and Coach Bob Wood ‘59 GPUS . “GPUS was a small school, and I had a small class, so we supported each other in everything.“
M illie Gervais ‘00 said of her sister and honoree Abby Tompkins Johannson ‘97 , “Abby’s stats are amazing, but it’s her determination, dedication, and grit that have gotten her through her life and to where she is today.”
Kevin Espy ‘98 was introduced by his brother Brad Espy ‘94 , who choked back tears as he talked about his love for his brother. “We knew he was going to be a great athlete from a very young age. He never backed down from anyone.” Brad said Kevin is more than a great athlete he’s an amazing father, son, brother. “He brings so much joy to everyone around him.”
Tom Gage ‘68 GPUS was genuinely confused by his nomination to the Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame, saying, ”I did not compete at a particularly high level in any sport. I’m a Hall of Famer because of what I learned in these classrooms from our amazing GPUS teachers. I’m grateful that they educated me in such a way that I was judged worthy of being here today.”
”I’m immensely grateful for my ULS experience and the team around the teams,” said Mags Dillon ‘02 , who specifically thanked his 4th grade teacher Mr. Glynn Conley ‘59 GPUS , softball coach Mr. Jim Schmidt, and field hockey coach Mrs. Romilly Stackpoole.
