the following questions: What are the contexts of Morocco's transformation in managing African migration to Europe? Has it succeeded in moving beyond the border guard model to play a leading role, as a transit state between African and European countries, in managing migration flows? Ultimately, the study finds that there is an increasing strategic utilisation of the migration issue by Morocco to serve its political and economic interests. However, its attempt to transition into a strategic actor in the regional governance of migration between Africa and Europe has several repercussions on its domestic situation as well as its relations with migrant-sending and receiving countries, especially concerning the worsening instability in sub-Saharan African countries and the blockage of migration routes in other North African countries in addition to the increasing securitisation of European migration solutions due to successive economic crises and the growth of anti-migrant rhetoric.
