URBAN FARMING Urban wastewater reuse for agriculture: hydroponic systems are identified as one of the alternative technologies that can be integrated with wastewater treatment. The efficiency of a hydroponic system regarding municipal wastewater reuse is not only linked to its capacity to allow continuous use of wastewater through the production of agricultural crops and the removal of pollutants/nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), but also to its significant contribution in increasing food security and environmental protection, thereby inspiring a sustainable future. Moreover, the hydroponic system's suitability for wastewater treatment is derived from its capacity to minimize associated health risks to farmers, harvested crops, and consumers that may arise through contact with wastewater.
