Living in the Past
Historic homes have a timeless quality and charm that many buyers are seeking these days. Renier Casanova, our Founding Agent for Compass South Miami, believes he’s the perfect agent for the task: helping these homes find their perfect owners. “There’s a level of responsibility and stewardship involved in owning a historic property,” he explains. Buyers should understand the home’s cultural significance, the real cost of maintenance, and restrictions on what they can and can’t do with the property. Renier recently sold a tropical modern home designed by a well-known architect in the 1980s, featuring a cottage from the 1800s in one of Coral Gables most prestigious neighborhoods: Snapper Creek Lakes. Documented in the Library of Congress, the property even has trees planted by renowned botanist David Fairchild. “I think the biggest advantage to purchasing a historic home is the story. Stories create meaning. You also get to be a caretaker for a piece of history. That is a great privilege.”
