HyFlex EDM Electrical Discharge Machining The HyFlex EDM files constitute the 5th generation of root canal files. HyFlex EDM NiTi files have completely new properties due to their innovative manufacturing process using electric discharge machining. This creates the unique surface of the new NiTi files and makes the HyFlex EDM files durable and more fracture resistant. This entirely unique combination of flexibility and fracture resistance makes it possible to reduce the number of files required for cleaning and shaping during root canal treatments without having to compromise preservation of the root canal anatomy. Just like HyFlex CM files, HyFlex EDM files have the already familiar C ontrolled M emory effect (CM). They are manufactured utilizing a unique process in which the crystallographic phase transitions from austenite to martensite at room temperature in contrast to conventional NiTi files, making the files extremely flexible, fracture resistant and able to regenerate multiple times.
Pre-Sterile for immediate use
Excellent fracture resistance Safer treatment thanks to the unique hardened surface
Variable Cross Section Design Contributes to high breakage resistance
Triangular cross- section at top for greater flexibility and cyclic fatigue resistance
Powerful cutting performance
´ Designed for successful
centered canal preparation ´ Multiple regeneration and reuse ´ Specially hardened for safer application ´ High flexibility ´ Extreme resistance to fracture
Hardened surface plus controlled memory improves cutting efficiency
Trapezoidal cross section in middle
Highly flexible and pre-bendable Evenly, centered preparation reduces risk of ledging or perforation due ot the controlled memory effect
Quadratic cross- section at tip for more mass and higher torsional fatigue resistance
Clinical Case by Dr. Marcus Johnson
Hyflex EDM files offer a compelling combination of features that enhance efficiency and safety in root canal treatment. They save time and simplify workflow with immediate use, minimizing procedural risks thanks to the unique design, as well as the combination of hardened surface and controlled memory effect allows for faster and more precise shaping as seen in this case (pictured). Facilitating navigation of complex canals, reducing the risk of ledging or perforation due to the controlled memory and fewer files are needed due to instrument’s effectiveness. Overall, HyFlex EDM files are a valuable option for clinicians seeking a reliable and efficient solution for root canal therapy.
