Ready for Winter by Nadine Poulos, Manager, Customer Engagement & Collections As temperatures dip and the snow falls, it’s always delightful to figure out just the right book for reading in the season. Here are a few books from across Canada to get you into a winter mood. Everyday Hockey Heroes: More Uplifting Stories Celebrating Our Great Game by Jim Lang (Adult, Nonfiction) How better to get us into the winter spirit than celebrating one of Canada’s true loves: hockey. Sportscaster and journalist Jim Lang teams up with famed sportscaster Bob McKenzie to bring voice to incredible stories of players, fans, and families who overcome adversity both on and off the ice. This nonfiction read will introduce you to everyday heroes who have spent their years in rinks, not just advancing their sport, but also encouraging others to become champions in their own ways. Small Game Hunting at the Local Coward Gun Club by Megal Gail Coles (Adult, Fiction) This gripping novel is set in Newfoundland during a harsh winter and follows a group of characters as they work through tough relationships and survive in a tough environment. Megan Gail Coles has wonderful descriptions of the Canadian winter that will certainly have you feeling the winter weather wherever you are! Coles writes a poetic novel about community and resilience. This is the perfect book for people looking for a novel that is a bit intense and still thought-provoking. The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox (Adult, Fiction) What is a winter reading list without a romantic holiday pick? Maggie Knox is the pen name for Canadian writing duo, Karma Brown and Marissa Stapley. This delightful romantic comedy

Please feel free to reach out to the library to get your hold on now! set in a picturesque Canadian town follows identical twin sisters whose lives couldn’t be more different -- a driven L.A. chef and a small-town baker. Do the twins need to switch lives? Of course they do! And that’s just one of the boxes checked off in this delightful, humorous, and warm holiday romance. My Winter City by James Gladstone (Children, Picture Book) One of my most favourite children’s picture books about winter is this exciting and delightful one by James Gladstone, with pictures by Gary Clement. This story is from a child’s point of view as the busy city is blanketed by snow. Everything takes a little more time and seems a little bit different when you’re world is suddenly engulfed in the beautiful white snow, and Gary Clement creates wonderful images full of imagination and wonder that a good snowfall brings. Many of our favourite authors release new works this winter. Be sure to add these to your holds list soon! • Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros (January 21, 2025) • Bonded in Death by J.D. Robb (February 4, 2025) • Never Say Never by Danielle Steel (January 7, 2025) • We All Live Here by Jojo Moyes (February 11, 2025) • The Bones Beneath My Ski n by T. J. Klune (February 4, 2025) And don’t forget: for those kids in your life, there are some hot picks on the way! • Dog Man: Big Jim Begins by Dav Pilkey (December 3, 2024) • Lefty by Mo Willems (December 3, 2024) • Old School by Gordon Korman (January 7, 2025) • Finding Harmony by Eric Walters (February 11, 2025)
