Health for Life Sock Drive by Peri Hayes
Dr. Denise Colledge and Dr. Cassie Stafford celebrate the return of Health for Life Sock Drive, offering, “The inspiration came from a conversation with one of my patients, a dedicated teacher, who shared with me that some of her students arrived at school with socks full of holes or damp from the weather. Hearing about the challenges they face, I realized how difficult it must be for these kids to focus and thrive in class with cold and wet feet.” As Founder, Denise, describes, “I wanted to create something that not only supports these students directly, but also brings our community together to help those in need. Through the Health for Life Sock Drive, we’re making a real, tangible difference by ensuring these children have the warmth and comfort they need to learn, grow and enjoy their school experience.” “The Health for Life Sock Drive has been a cherished part of our community since 2008,” Denise continues. “Each year, I am incredibly grateful to have my mother and daughter join in by creating a unique display for our office; bringing a fresh, festive look to the drive. This tradition has become something special that our patients look forward to. For this year’s Sock Drive, we are planning a theme that is sure to bring smiles, encouraging everyone to get involved.” The engagement, generosity and unity in St. Thomas inspires Denise, as she thoughtfully details, “What excites me most about the Health for Life sock drive is knowing the impact it has on children right here in our community. There’s something truly special about seeing the community come together each year to make a difference in these kids’ lives.” Asked what this fundraiser means to Denise, she graciously responds, “Every pair of socks donated represents a little warmth, a little comfort and a reminder to these kids that their community cares about them. It’s about lifting each other up and creating a supportive environment for the next generation. This sock drive connects us, reminding us all how simple acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.” Launching in November, the Health for Life Sock Drive operates until January 3rd. Once the drive concludes, donations will be personally distributed to local elementary schools. Denise enthuses, “Donations will be gratefully accepted at my office located at 172 Centre Street. We are looking for new socks in any size or colour, suitable for children between ages four and fourteen. Thank you to everyone who supports this effort!”
