La police conseille aux propriétaires d’obtenir des devis écrits d’au moins trois entrepreneurs, pour les rénovations ou les réparations prévues, et de ne pas accepter de devis verbaux lors d’un appel télépho- nique si l’entrepreneur n’a pas effectué une visite en personne pour inspecter les travaux proposés. Les propriétaires doivent également attendre que les travaux soient terminés avant de payer le montant total du contrat. Ils éviteront ainsi les problèmes juri- diques et financiers qui pourraient survenir si l’entreprise cessait ses activités ou se déclarait en faillite avant la fin des travaux. Les propriétaires doivent également s’adresser à la chambre de commerce locale ou au Better Business Bureau pour savoir si l’entrepreneur a fait l’objet de plaintes dans le passé.

Les autres se trouvent à Ottawa, North Grenville, Calabogie, South Elmsley, McNab-Braeside, Ashton, Montague Township et Kinburn. L’enquête policière a bénéficié de l’aide du Centre d’analyse des opérations et décla- rations financières du Canada (CANAFE), de la MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, du Groupe de gestion juricomptable (GGJ) et de l’Agence du revenu du Canada (ARC). Transportation of Eastern Ontario and the bus companies providing the service have yet to come to a compensation agreement for the school year starting September 5.
